Tuesday Trivia: Amrish Puri was supposed to play Mogambo's brother Zorambo in Andaz Apna Apna

By Jyoti Kanyal: Andaz Apna Apna is among a few Bollywood classics that acquired a cult status after a debacle at the box office. Even though the film didn't open to a full house at theatres, it managed to build a loyal fan following later on. The film is remembered for its rib-tickling dialogues, the pair of Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, the innocence of Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon and the ensemble cast that gave us some unforgettable characters. But not many people know that the legendary Amrish Puri was also supposed to be a part of Andaz Apna Apna. The actor was going to play the role of Zorambo, an antithesis of Amrish Puri's character Mogambo from Mr India. According to the script, Zorambo was Mogambo's brother who was completely opposite of the iconic villain. While Mogambo used to laugh and say, "Mogambo khush hua," Zorambo was supposed to be a sad soul who would say, "Zorambo khush nahi hua." In a recent interview, Rajkumar Santoshi revealed that Zorambo was supposed to wear a white costume, opposite to what Mogambo wore in Mr India (he was seen wearing a black costume). The director added, "While the costume and everything was ready for Zorambo, the character was later removed from the film as it was not working for us length-wise." In the book by Amborish Roychoudhary, In A Cult of Their Own: Bollywood Beyond Box Office, the author revealed how the character of Crime Master Gogo, played by Shakti Kapoor, came into existence. In his book, the author quotes Ra...
