Speaking to the media, Nidhi said, "She (Anjali) was in a drunken state but insisted on driving the two-wheeler. It is the fault of the girl. I had told her to let me drive telling her that she was drunk but she opposed it. After being hit by the car, she came under the car and got dragged with it." Asked why she did not inform the police, Nidhi said she was scared by the accident. Prior to an accident with Maruti Suzuki Baleno, she said that they nearly missed hitting a truck. Anjali was dead after her scooter was hit by a car, which dragged her for 12 kilometres, in the early hours of the New Year, 2023. Her body was found in outer Delhi's Kanjhawala. The five accused have been booked for culpable homicide among other sections. They are presently under police custody. Kanjhawala horror: Victim cremated amid tight security The mortal remains of the 20-year-old woman were cremated amid heavy security on Tuesday evening. The mortal remains were carried to a crematorium in an ambulance. Hundreds of people carrying banners that read "Anjali ko insaaf do (Give justice to Anjali)", and "Capital punishment for accused" also joined the funeral procession.

Delhi horror: New footage shows Anjali's friend returning home from accident

By Himanshu Mishra: More details are being revealed every day in the case of a 20-year-old woman dying after she was dragged by a car for about 12 kilometres. India Today has gotten access to CCTV footage that shows the woman's friend Nidhi reaching home after fleeing from the site of the accident. Watch here: Meanwhile, CCTV footage from before the incident showed the two women coming out of a hotel and then getting into an argument over something. The women were seen arguing and Anjali tried to snatch something from Nidhi. Police suspect that the fight between the two girls was over who would ride the scooty and that Anjali was trying to snatch keys from her friend. When they came out of the hotel, Nidhi drove the scooty while Anjali was seen seated in the back seat. However, after covering some distance, the two women were seen exchanging seats and Nidhi sat on the back seat of the scooty. ALSO READ | DEVELOPMENTS SO FAR In the early hours of January 1, the police received a call about a grey Baleno dragging a body. The police found the body at 4.11 am near Hanuman Mandir, Jonti village. The body, which belonged to Anjali, had extensive injuries, clothes were torn apart and both the legs were separated from the body. Ankush was allegedly involved in a plot to cover up the death, protect the accused, and mislead the police. A total of seven people have been arrested so far. Seven men -- Deepak Khanna, Manoj Mittal, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun, Ashutosh (owner of the car) and Ankush -- have been arrested for the death of 20-year-old Anjali. Ashutosh and Ankush were arrested today for trying to help the other five men in a cover-up. Five men, who were arrested hours after the hit-and-run incident, have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, causing death by negligence, and criminal conspiracy. READ | Anjali's body was found with her clothes ripped off and her skin peeled away in the Kanjhawala area of Delhi. As per the READ | After getting rid of the body, the accused parked the car outside Ashutosh's residence and fled in an autorickshaw.
