Vanessa de Jesus to Play in FIBA Women’s Asia Cup with Philippines Women’s National Team

Story Links DURHAM – Duke women's basketball rising senior "I am thrilled for the opportunity to suit up for the Philippines National Team," said de Jesus.  "Two of the most important things in my life are family and basketball and through this opportunity I will be able to represent both. I am thankful to everyone who has helped get me to this point and I look forward to growing as a leader and a basketball player by competing on the global stage." The FIBA Women's Asia Cup is slated for June 26-July 2 at the Quay Centre in the Sydney Olympic Park in Sydney, Australia. With a good showing in Sydney, de Jesus and Gilas will keep themselves in Division A of the tournament. "I'm thrilled that Vanessa will have this opportunity to represent The Philippines on the world stage," said Duke women's basketball head coach Gilas, part of a difficult Group B, opens action against host Australia June 26 at 5:30 a.m. ET. Following that, the Philippines National Team will face Japan (June 27), the five-time defending FIBA Women's Asia Cup champions, before closing out group play with a matchup versus Chinese Taipei on June 28. Classification and qualifying games commence the final phase of the event on June 30, with the semifinal (July 1) and final (July 2) to follow. Asia Cup 2022 schedule announced

UAE, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong will play a qualifying round with the winner joining India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the main tournament. The main tournament will feature six teams divided into two groups. India, Pakistan and the qualifier are in Group A while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan form Group B. Each team plays within the group once. The top two teams qualify for the Super 4 round where the teams play against each other in league format again before the final where the top two would feature.
