By Express News Service BENGALURU: After the draft notification on ward delimitation, the government announced the notification for the reservation of all 243 Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) wards. According to the list, out of 234 wards, General Category and General Category women can contest in 129 wards. The notification also says objections can be filed from the date of notification for up to 7 days and the objections have to be given in writing to Urban Development Department at Vikasa Soudha. As per the notification, many women have been given preference under General, Backward Class A, B, SC and ST reservations. The women can contest in 110 wards plus under the notification. Interestingly, many BBMP Corporators aspirants and former Corporators and ex-ruling and Opposition leaders like Manjunath Reddy from Madivala ward 190, ex-ruling party leader Rizwan Nawab from Gurappa a Palaya ward (194) cannot contest from the same ward as the ward is reserved for General Category (Women). R Sampat Raj, former Mayor from DJ Halli cannot contest from here as the ward is reserved for BCA Women. The same applied to ex-Mayor Gautham Jain as Jogupalya ward is for General Category women now. By Express News Service BENGALURU: The Opposition Congress on Friday accused the government of ignoring social justice and preparing the BBMP ward reservation list with the sole objective of helping candidates from the ruling BJP. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, however, defended the move, saying it was done as per the rules, and slammed Congress for protesting inside Vikasa Soudha on Friday. KPCC president DK Shivakumar said the list has to be prepared according to the population and keeping in mind social justice, but it was not done. The government prepared the list to help BJP candidates and has done injustice to women, SC/STs and backward classes, he charged. While Shivakumar said they will fight it legally, party MLAs from Bengaluru staged a protest at the Urban Development Department office inside Vikasa Soudha. The Congress leaders accused the department of working like a BJP office and put up a board, “BJP office”. Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy said the government ignored over 3,000 objections, he said. He said that in his Assembly segment, out of nine wards, eight are reserved for women. In the Jayanagar Assembly segment, out of six wards, five have been reserved for women. In the Gandhi Nagar Assembly segment, all the seven wards have been reserved for women and in the Chamarajpet Assembly segment, five out of six wards are for women. • Govt issues draft reservation list for 243 wards. • 130 wards fall under general category in the city. • SC on Thursday ordered govt to issue notification within 7 days. Following the Supreme Court order, the Karnataka government on Wednesday night notified the draft reservation list for all the 243 Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike ( BBMP) wards. Seven days time has been given to citizens to file objections if any. According to the draft notification, 81 seats have been reserved for the candidates from Other Backward Category (OBC), Scheduled Caste (SC) have got 28 and four for Scheduled Tribe (ST). 130 seats fall under the general category. 50 per cent seats have been reserved for women in all these reservations. “The persons who are aggrieved by the aforesaid ward-wise reservation may submit their objections with reasons in writing, addressed to the additional chief secretary…within seven days of date of publication with notification,” the draft notification read.
