Why Black Adam Still Bombed At The Box Office After Making Close To $400 Million

The year was 2007. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Hollywood career was only beginning to gain traction, and superhero-centric movies were far from the surefire cinematic moneymakers they'd become in only a few more years. Nevertheless, it came to light that the longtime WWE sensation would After years in development limbo, "Shazam!" premiered in 2019 with Zachary Levi in the title role. Instead of facing Black Adam, though, he took on Mark Strong's Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. The reason for this change? Because Johnson's Black Adam would get a movie all his own, which took on the simple title of "Black Adam." Around 15 years after he first signed on for the role, Johnson finally got to play "The Man in Black" in 2022, courtesy of Warner Bros. Discovery and director Jaume Collet-Serra. Was it the change in the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe Johnson promised? After all, it costs money to get a film like "Black Adam" in theaters — around half of the cash accumulated due to ticket sales. Therefore, if it hopes to break even, "Black Adam" will have to make around $600 million globally to account for its budget, marketing push, and movie theaters' share. However, according to Variety's financial sources, at the rate the film is going, it will be lucky to get out of the $400 million territory. That means "Black Adam" is on track to lose millions that That's the long and short of how "Black Adam" is still considered a bomb despite raking in a large amount of money, but what led to th...

Black Adam movie review & film summary (2022)

Throughout the rest of its running time, “Black Adam” leans into the inevitability of Adam’s evolution toward good-guy status, condensing the transformation of the title character in the first two “Terminator” films (there are even comic bits where people try to teach Adam sarcasm and the Geneva Conventions). "Black Adam" then stirs in dollops of a macho sentimentality that used to be common in old Hollywood dramas about loners who needed to get involved in a cause to reset their moral compasses or recognize their worth. But the sharp edge that the film brings to the early parts of its story never dulls. Adam initially seems as much of a literal as well as a figurative force of nature as Godzilla and other beasts in Japanese kaiju films. It’s initially hard for the people in Adam’s path to tell if he’s good, evil, or merely indifferent to human concerns. One thing’s for sure: everyone wants Adam to help them prevent a crown forged in hell and infused with the energy of six demons from being placed atop the head of someone in Intergang, a global corporate/mercenary consortium whose interests are represented by a two-faced charmer ( Decades ago, The latter are usually triggered by three “civilian” characters who appeal to Adam’s presumed innate (though submerged) goodness. One is Adrianna Tomaz ( Somehow, though, the script by It also comes from the violence, which is presented as the inevitable result of the characters’ personalities, ambitions, and duties, rather than bein...

'Black Adam' Has 1 End

If you head out to see " There's one extra scene during the credits featuring the return of a beloved superhero who fans have been hoping to see for some time on screen. If you stepped out too early, don't worry. We have you covered. Here's what you should know about the scene everyone will be talking about. Black Adam says no one on Earth could pose a threat to him. Amanda Waller introduces him to someone, technically, from off-planet. Courtesy Warner Bros. Pictures The scene opens in the evening with a drone flying down to meet Black Adam (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) at the location where he crushed his throne at the film's end. A projection appears out of the top of the drone and we see the familiar face of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis),a government official and the Task Force X/Suicide Squad commanding officer. "OK, Black Adam. My name is Amanda Waller. Congratulations, you have my attention," Waller's live projection says. "This is gonna be your only warning. You don't want to stay in my prison that's fine. Kahndaq is your prison now. You step one foot outside of it, you will not live to regret it." Black Adam calls her bluff with a retort. Amanda Waller basically tells Black Adam that she doesn't have time for his nonsense. Warner Bros. Waller tells the antihero she could call in a favor and send in people who aren't from Earth. Black Adam gives a small smile before telling her: "Send them all." As Waller says, "As you wish," Black Adam explodes the drone to bits. A dar...

Black Adam Powers and Abilities Explained

Dwayne Johnson will portray one of the most badass villains in the DC Universe when the DCEU Black Adammovie arrives. While Black Adam has historically been known as a Shazam villain, he’ll get his own solo movie this time around (where he’ll square off But what makes Black Adam so tough, and why is one of the biggest action stars of a generation so eager to play him? That’s because he shares that magic word of The traditional Shazam acronym stands for a group of gods and heroes (mostly) stemming from the Greco-Roman tradition. Billy Batson is imbued with the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury when he speaks the famed magic word. Those are pretty self-explanatory, but Black Adam gets his powers from a different pantheon. For Black Adam, the magic word of Shazam stands for the Stamina of Shu, the swiftness of Heru, the strength of Amon, the wisdom of Zehuti, the power of Aton, and the courage of Mehen. For the purposes of superhero storytelling, we’ll just consider “stamina” to be manifested as nigh-invulnerability, meaning that Adam (or other Shazam family members) can take about as much punishment as Superman. Now, to be clear, the gods of Ancient Egyptian mythology aren’t as tied to specific roles as their Greek or Roman counterparts. But Shu has been known to be equated with Atlas (perhaps because he’s associated with the space between the ground and the sky), hence the ...
