I think it must somehow be connected with the all-time, record-breaking long, cold, wet Spring we had this year. It was miserable to live in, but it sure did wonders for the blackberries! Blackberries are so plentiful here in Washington State, they’re considered an invasive weed. And for the life me, every time we see blackberries for sale in the grocery stores we wonder why on earth anyone would pay for blackberries when they’re so readily available everywhere for free! How to Make Blackberry Syrup: 13 Steps (with Pictures)

If you have a glut of blackberries that needs to be used, mix up a simple blackberry syrup. Combine fresh or thawed blackberries with sugar, water, and a little lemon juice. Simmer the mixture and strain it so you're left with tangy, seedless blackberry syrup. Then use the syrup in your favorite drinks, baked goods, and roasts. Simmer the berry mixture over low heat for 20 to 30 minutes. Turn the burner down to low heat so the liquid is bubbling gently. Keep the lid off of the saucepan and cook the blackberry mixture until the berries fall apart. Turn off the burner once the syrup is as thick as you like. X Research source • Stir the blackberry mixture occasionally as it simmers to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan. Strain the blackberry syrup through a fine mesh strainer. Put a bowl underneath a fine mesh strainer and slowly pour the blackberry syrup into the strainer. Some of the syrup will immediately drip through the strainer into the bowl. X Research source • If you don't have a fine mesh strainer, place a few layers of cheesecloth into a colander and put the blackberry mixture into the cheesecloth.
