As per the university’s prospectus released on June 14, 2023, the tuition fee of an undergraduate course, which earlier was Rs 1,100 per semester, had been revised to Rs 9,000, whereas the postgraduate courses charging Rs 2,200 per semester will now cost the students Rs 18,000. Now, after the protest, these fees will not be more than Rs 1,210 and Rs 2,420 respectively. Students enrolled in PhD programmes used to pay Rs 19,260 (without hostel facility), but the amount was increased to Rs 48,655. This will not be more than Rs 21,186 now. Later, the police dismissed rumours that 60 videos were circulated and said that one girl student had shared her own clip with a youth from Himachal Pradesh whose role is also under the scanner. The accused girl, also a student at the university, has been arrested. Earlier, protests had erupted on the campus following the rumours, and police had to step in to restore order. Other girls saw her recording while she was in the washroom and panicked, thinking she was shooting videos of them. If a girl and boy are sharing videos and not making them public, it isn’t a crime according to law,” Mohali SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said. New Delhi: Donning black T-shirts, students of Chandigarh University in Punjab's Mohali district continued to protest demanding justice over the alleged 'leaked objectionable videos' on Monday (September 19, 2022). The stir began at around 2:30 am on Sunday after it was alleged that objectionable videos of several girls were leaked. After a preliminary investigation, police arrested a woman student, while a 23-year-old youth, stated to be her boyfriend, was held in Himachal Pradesh and handed over to the Punjab Police. The Himachal Police also detained another 31-year-old man in connection with the case.
