As per the IMD, a "cyclonic circulation has formed and lay over the southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood at 08:30 an on Saturday". The low-pressure area (LPA) is likely to form on Monday and will turn into a depression on May 9. Thereafter, it is likely to further intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving nearly northwards towards the central Bay of Bengal. "The path of the system's movement and other parameters could be provided after the formation of the low-pressure area on Sunday. The system is under constant watch and being monitored regularly, but no advisory has been issued in regard to the cyclone," India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said. It is very likely to maintain its intensity of depression and move slowly westnorthwestwards towards north In a statement, it added, "Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm & lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over South Tamilnadu. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet district of Tamilnadu and Puducherry."
