China's Population Decline Can't Overtake America's Economy

In 2009, on the heels of a U.S.-driven international financial crisis, a book by a British journalist, Martin Jacques, exploded out of the gates of the publishing world and, for a time, dominated perceptions of what many saw then (and now) as perhaps the most important questions in global affairs: Whither China? China marriage registrations hit record low of 6.83m in 2022

SHANGHAI --The number of marriage registrations in China hit a record low in 2022, adding pressure on policymakerslooking to reverse the country's falling birthrate and shrinking population. The latest statisticsfrom the Ministry of Civil Affairs show6.83 million couples registered marriages, the fewest since 1985 -- the first year for which data is publicly available.
