USA Cricket Women's Under 19s Squad for Historic First World Cup Appearance Named

• A 15-player squad to represent Team USA has been named for the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa next month • USA Women’s Under 19s will make history by becoming the first Women’s cricket team to represent the United States at a Cricket World Cup and the first of any kind since the Men’s Under 19s team in 2010 • Geetika Kodali captains the squad, with Anika Kolan named as vice-captain with 5 non-traveling reserves also announced USA Cricket is honored to announce the 15-player squad that will represent the United States of America in the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup that gets underway in South Africa next month. The squad is captained by Geetika Kodali, and the coaching team is led by Shivnarine Chanderpaul with the USA facing a challenging Group A that features Australia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The 15-player squad named today by the USA Women’s U19 National Selection Panel is accompanied by five non-traveling reserves who will be on stand-by in case of any replacements being required. 14 of the 15 players that r ecently toured the United Arab Emirates have been selected, with Taranum Chopra being the addition to that squad. #TurnItUp | The 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup is here! Which teams are taking part in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup? Eleven Full-Member nations gained automatic entry to the inaugural edition of the U19 Women's T20 World Cup, namely: Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe. The remaining five spots were filled by one team from each of the ICC’s five regions, through regional Qualifier tournaments, which had begun from June this year. The 16 teams have named their squads for the tournament that begins from January 14. Which teams came through the qualifiers? Nineteen teams participated in the regional qualifiers across Asia, Europe, East Asia-Pacific (EAP) and Africa. Asia Qualifier : Bhutan, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand, Qatar, UAE (Q) Africa Qualifier: Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda (Q), Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda Europe Qualifier : Netherlands, Scotland (Q) EAP Qualifier: Indonesia (Q), PNG Americas: USA gained the fifth spot being the only Associate nation eligible to compete under ICC’s Event Pathway Participation Criteria in the region. Women's U19 World Cup 2023 Schedule: Full Fixtures List & Match Timings

The Originally meant to take place in January 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the tournament for two years. But in January, the competition will finally get underway in South Africa, with 16 teams competing. There will be four groups of four teams for the first round of the tournament, where each team will play the other three in their group once before the top three from each group advance to the Super Six stage. The top two teams from each of the Super Six leagues will advance to the semi-finals. The final is set to be played on January 29. Several teams have already announced their squads, with England the first to announce their 15 players travelling to South Africa. The India side will be captained by Shafali Verma, who made her debut for the senior India T20I side in 2019 but is still only 18.
