Sharing the update, Akshay took to Instagram and dropped a poster of his latest thriller which also features Rakul Preet Singh in a pivotal role. "Get into the mind of Kasauli's serial killer along with me in 'Cuttputlli,' now streaming only on Disney + Hotstar," he captioned the post. In the movie, Akshay plays the role of Arjan Sethi, the dutiful sub-inspector who took an oath to keep the people of Kasauli safe. However, fate has other plans as the killer strikes from the shadows of terror, leaving behind no trace of evidence, except a body. The film's plot follows the small town cop in his pursuit of the person behind the serial killings that have plagued Kasauli. Intrigued by the recurring pattern of the murders, Sethi embarks on a thrilling roller coaster ride where he seeks to find the link between the murders and the face behind them. Speaking about the film, Akshay had earlier said, "Set once upon a time in Kasauli amidst the backdrop of nature's beauty, the film unveils incidents of ugly killings. This is further catapulted by some good performances in the form of Sujith Shanker as Purshottam Tomar, Renaye Tejani as Payal, Joshua Leclair as Christopher/Agnes and even an underplayed Divya by The Verdict In the end, Cuttputlii serves as an engaging whodunit and is indeed well-suited for streaming platform viewing. When it comes to that call, the makers have hit the bulls eye. The loopholes of the film and a select few performances along with longruntime don't entirely favor the film and hence, it might be good viewing but is definitely a mediocre mystery thriller at best. In his latest release, Cuttputlli , Akshay Kumar – for a change – is not trying to play a hero. An aspiring filmmaker in Chandigarh, Arjan Sethi (Kumar) who, has a preternatural interest in criminal psychology, wants to direct thrillers. Barring the regular temporal calisthenics – the 54-year-old actor playing a 36-year-old character who calls a 41-year-old actress (Hrishitaa Bhatt) “ didi ” – this everyman lunge seems comforting. The Punjabi film industry producers keep rejecting him, compelling him to become a junior cop in Kasauli, serving under his brother-in-law, Narinder (Chandrachur Singh). He’s so low in the ranks that he can only be a spectator in a high-profile case: the murder of two schoolgirls. Such an approach makes even more sense because Cuttputlli – the remake of a 2018 Tamil movie, Ratsasan – is a thriller, where three things matter: the crime, the investigation, the criminal. But since this is a Bollywood production, we know that Kumar will play a major role in solving the case. Which is fine. What isn’t fine is how he becomes a part of it. On the very first day of his job, Narinder tells him (twice) to just follow the orders and not be a hero. So does another cop. The SHO (Station House Officer), played by Sargun Mehta, known for her fiery temper, is hostile to him right from the start. Arjan is soon punished, relegated to buying groceries and cigarettes.
