The original Valmiki’s Ramayana and Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas are two of the most famous and well known Ramayanas in Indian culture. Valmiki’s Ramanya is the original Ramayana and was written by Sage Valmiki himself who was a contemporary of Rama. His story was written in Treta Yuga in the language of Sanskrit. On the other hand, Ramcharitmanas was written in Kali Yuga by famous poet Goswami Tulsidas. He wrote his story in 15 th century AD in the language of Awadhi. The main structural differences between both stories are that Valmiki wrote his in the form of slokas, a poetic form with sixteen symbols per line, while Tulsidas wrote his in Chaupais, a poetic form that uses a meter of four syllables. Both contain seven chapters, but Tulsidas changed the name of one of his chapters from Yuddha Kandam to Lanka Kand. The two Ramayanas are very similar to each other and Tulsidas follows the same story arch that Valmiki had in his originals.
