2023 Ekadashi

Ekadashi fasting is observed on every 11 th Tithi in Hindu calendar. There are two Ekadashi fasting in a month, one during Shukla Paksha and another during Krishna Paksha. Devotees of Ekadashi fasting spans for three days. Devotees take single meal in the afternoon a day before fasting day to make sure there is no residual food in the stomach on next day. Devotees keep strict fast on Ekadashi day and break the fast on next day only after sunrise. Eating of all type of grains and cereals is prohibited during Ekadashi fasting. Devotees can choose to observe fasting without water, with only water, with only fruits, with one time latex food according to their will and body power. However it should be decided before starting the fast. Ekadashi Vrat At times Ekadashi fasting is suggested on two consecutive days. It is advised that Smartha with family should observe fasting on first day only. The alternate Ekadashi fasting, which is the second one, is suggested for Sanyasis, widows and for those who want Moksha. When alternate Ekadashi fasting is suggested for Smartha it coincides with Vaishnava Ekadashi fasting day. Ekadashi fasting on both days is suggested for staunch devotees who seek for love and affection of Lord Vishnu. This page list Ekadashi fasting days for Smarthas. Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. People observe fast on this auspicious day of Ekadashi. Devotees offer prayers to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that the devotees who keep strict fast on this particular day, get rid of their bad past karma and directly go to Vaikunth Dhaam (Lord Shri Hari's abode) after death. Ekadashi 2023 : Ekadashi is considered to be one of the main and important day in Hindu religion. This day is dedicated to worship Lord Vishnu. Devotees observe strict fast. Some devotees keep fast even without consuming water (Nirjala Fast) or they only consume fruits and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu on this auspicious day of Ekadashi. They break their fast on the next day of Ekadashi i.e., Dwadashi Tithi. There are total 24 Ekadashi observances in a year. Ekadashi falls twice a month during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. It is believed that devotees who observe Ekadashi fast, Lord Vishnu bless them with happiness prosperity and they attain salvation (Moksha). Ekadasi has two rules which is known as Smartha and Vaishnava. The Smartha rule is simple - Ekadashi should be visible at the time of local sunrise. Yogini Ekadashi: Yogini Ekadashi comes after Nirjala Ekadashi and before Devshayani Ekadashi. Yogini Ekadashi falls during Krishna Paksha of Ashadha month according to the North Indian calendar and during Krishna Paksha of Jyaishta month according to the South Indian calendar. It is believed that fasting on Yogini Ekadashi is equivalent to feeding 88 thousand Brahamins. On Yogini Ekadashi, devotees offer prayers to Lord Vishnu to bring happiness and prosperity. Some devotes keep a complete nirjala (without water) fasting on Yogini Ekadashi, others do it as per one's capacity. Yogini Ekadashi: Importance It is said that keeping a fast on Yogini Ekadashi can wash away sins and let one transcend to Swarga Lok. Some suggest that observing fast on this day with sincere devotion is equivalent to goodness (punya) obtained by feeding 88,000 Brahmins.
