New Zealand v England: first Test

16 Feb 2023 08.45 GMT You didn’t expect England to be 180 for four at the end of the day, did you? Another high octave performance with the bat – with particular applause for Ben Duckett (84 from 68) and Harry Brook (89 from 81). Some slightly reckless shots towards the close, but it was all done with a plan in mind – getting the Kiwis in under lights. The declaration was a typically alpha Stokes move. Ah, here is Harry Brook: “I think we finished off really nicely at the end, taking three wickets under lights. We haven’t been told to go out and play like that, just put pressure on the bowlers and put away the bad ball as much as I can. “It’s good to be back out there, it felt good out there, unfortunate not to get a hundred but a Test 90 so I’m happy with that. I always knew the short ball was coming, to get out like that was a bit unfortunate. “Pitch a little bit two-paced. I definitley feel like it is going to be easier to bat tomorrow in the day, a bit more of a graft tomorrow. “There was no discussion about the declaration beforehand.” • • 16 Feb 2023 08.33 GMT Close of play: New Zealand 37-3 are 288 runs behind. 18th over: New Zealand 37-3 (Conway 17, Wagner 4) Five slips, a leg slip, leg gully, short leg, mid off. Wagner taking the last over from Anderson as is his role. Plugs stoically. One squares him up, wriggling past but he survives. They shake hands at the end of another Bazball special. 16 Feb 2023 08.17 GMT 14th over: New Zealand 31-3 (Conway 15, Wagner 0) N...

According to the published cricket itinerary, the English team has decided to travel to New Zealand in order to play 2 test match series in the upcoming month of February 2023. New Zealand vs England test series 2023 will begin with the first test (a Kane Williamson will lead the hosting side whereas the English team will go to New Zealand under the captaincy of Ben Stokes. The English skipper, Ben Stokes is currently standing at the number 21st position whereas Kane Williamson is at the number 6th position in the ICC test player ranking. But England has got players like Joe Root who is currently the top test player in the world, so the competition is worth watching. Presently, New Zealand is in the 5th place whereas England holds the 4th position in the ICC test team ranking. Since the ranking won’t impact much on the result of the series due to the unpredictable and changing behavior of the NZ pitches. In terms of head-to-head in test cricket, New Zealand and England faced each other for the first time in 1930, since then New Zealand and England met on the cricket field on 107 occasions where New Zealand won only 12 matches and lost 48 test matches. New Zealand v England: second Test, day three

26 Feb 2023 05.41 GMT Steve Finn adds that when Stokes made his decision, the sky was overcast, and he thinks it was the correct course of action; both think England are still in a good position to win the game. But if NZ can find 250 more runs, there’ll be pressure, though of course this side have form for making bigger targets look very silly via the deployment of one-day batting against Test-match fields. • • 26 Feb 2023 05.36 GMT Back in the studio, Alastair Cook says he’d not have enforced the follow-on and rarely did as captain – “Oh indeed,” as Omar Little might’ve said. He – cook not Little – reckons the wicket’s flattened out and the bowlers have to keep going, which is tough, but the call makes sense because England need to get 20 wickets. • • 26 Feb 2023 05.33 GMT End of day three: New Zealand trail England by 24 runs with seven second-innings wickets intact 83rd over: New Zealand 201-3 (Williamson 24, Nicholls 18) Williamson needs five more runs to overtake Ross Taylor as NZ’s most prolific Test batter, but he won’t be bothered about making that happen tonight – it can wait until what should be a belter of a tomorrow. Meantime, Robinson bounds in in his slightly awkward style, four slips hoping for an error; Williamson makes sure it’s not his by taking a single to point, then Nicholls plays away four dots. That’s another fine day, and tomorrow should be terrific: there’s a fair bit of responsibility on this partnership but also plenty of batting to come, and bo...
