Description and Brand Names Drug information provided by: US Brand Name • Premarin Descriptions Conjugated estrogens are a medicine that contains a mixture of estrogen hormones. It is used to treat moderate to severe hot flashes, changes in and around the vagina, and other symptoms of menopause or low amounts of estrogen (hypoestrogenism). This medicine is also used to prevent osteoporosis (thinning of the bones) after menopause. Conjugated estrogens tablet is also used to treat symptoms of breast and prostate cancer that have spread through the body in men and women. It is also used to treat certain conditions in women before menopause if their ovaries do not make enough estrogen naturally. This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription. What Is Estrace? Estrace (estradiol) is a female hormone (estrogen) used to treat certain symptoms of menopause such as dryness, burning, and itching of the vaginal area and urgency or irritation with urination. Estrace is available in generic form. What Are Side Effects of Estrace? Common side effects of Estrace include: • nausea, • vomiting, • bloating, • stomach cramps, • stomach upset, • breast tenderness/pain/swelling, • headache, • weight changes, • freckles or darkening of facial skin, • loss of scalp hair, • vaginal itching or discharge, • changes in your menstrual periods, or • break-through bleeding. Dosage for Estrace The dosage range of Estrace is 2 to 4 g (marked on the applicator) daily for one or two weeks, then gradually reduced to one half initial dosage for a similar period. A maintenance dosage of 1 g, one to three times a week, may be used after restoration of the vaginal mucosa has been achieved. What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Estrace? Estrace may interact with anticoagulants (blood thinners), thyroid medication, insulin or an oral diabetes medicine, glyburide, or tamoxifen. Tell your doctor all medications you are taking. Estrace During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Estrace must not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor immediately. What Is Estarylla? Estarylla (norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol kit) is a combination of female hormones for use by females of reproductive potential to prevent pregnancy. What Are Side Effects of Estarylla? Side effects of Estarylla include: • irregular uterine bleeding, • nausea, • headache/migraine, • abdominal/gastrointestinal pain, • vaginal infection, • genital discharge, breast issues (including breast pain, tenderness, discharge, and enlargement), • mood disorders (including depression and altered mood), • gas (flatulence), • nervousness, and • rash. Dosage for Estarylla • The dose of Estarylla is active tablets that are blue from Day 1 to Day 21, then green inactive tablets from Day 22 to Day 28.
