The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has come up with a draft notification proposing detailed set of norms with regards to the accreditation of driver training centres. This is in a bid to impart quality driver training to Indian citizens. The ministry clarified those individuals who successfully learn driving from these centres will be exempted from taking a driving test at the time of applying for a driving license (DL) at the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). "The step will also help the transport industry to have specially trained drivers, which will improve their efficiency and reduce road accidents," according to an official release. The draft notification which was released on January 29 has been uploaded on the website of the ministry for public consultation and will be formally issued in due course. The move primarily is aimed at reducing road accidents by half by the year 2025.
