GMVN Gaurikund TRH - Pathetic, Avoid if possible. It's a neglected property of GMVN & is not fit for even 1 night stay on the Kedarnath Trek. The approach stairs - 50 steps - are in a bad shape where one can easily topple of fall. After these 50 steep steps, we reached the reception area & the Eco Dbl Rooms. For accessing the Delux rooms & Dining Hall, another 25-30 steps need to be climbed. Rooms are in terrible state. We stayed in Eco Room # 102. It had damp cracked walls, dirty bedsheets, stinking pillow covers, unclean coffee table & floor, poor quality mattress etc. The only good thing about the room was it's bathroom which was fairly clean with hot geyser for 24 Hrs Hot Shower etc. Room wasn't cleaned by Housekeeping team though we were the only guest's on that day. Restaurant is managed by a group of 3-4 elderly guys almost fit to be members of pensioner's club who themselves advise to have food elsewhere. Reception guys are always missing. During Check-out, keys are to be left at the counter. Nobody bothers to care for the guest's. Many private basic accommodation options available at just Rs 500 onwards during off season starting July onwards. This GMVN Guest House may be considered only during peak season Apr-May-Jun as private hotels charge exorbitant rates. Not advised for senior citizens & physically challenged persons.
