GNA- Ghana has moved three places up to be rated 58th best team in the world in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday, December 22, for the last month in 2022. Ghana, previously ranked 61st in the world saw a change after the senior national team’s performance in the just-ended FIFA World Cup with 1400.02 points accumulation, gaining 7.02 more points to move up. Ghana is now the 11th-best team in Africa behind Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso. The South American side Brazil, who fell off at the quarterfinal stage came out as the No.1 with 1840.77 points ahead of the world champions Argentina who climbed to the second position with 1838.38 points. World Cup 2022: Ghana climbs up FIFA rankings after Nigeria triumph

The Black Stars moved up from the 61st to 60th on the global index but still remains outside the top 10 in Africa. The West African giants are 11th in Africa behind the likes of Senegal, Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt and Mali. The four-time African champions fell in February after the country's calamitous 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon where the team exited the group stage without a win. However, the team turn the screws from the ruins to qualify for their fourth World Cup after negotiating their tie against regional rivals Nigeria on the away goal rule. Ghana will know its group opponents for the group stage on Fridaywhen the draw is held in Doha, Qatar. The Black Stars are among the lowly-seeded teams after being placed in Pot 4. This means the team cannot avoid heavyweights like Argentina, Brazil and France as well as 2014 group stage opponent Germany amongst many other stellar nations.
