Ghiradelli is one of the most recognized name in chocolate, and for good reason. It is America's third-oldest chocolate company and also one of its largest. You can't visit a supermarket candy aisle without seeing displays full of Ghiradelli chocolate. The company opened its doors in 1852 when Domenico Ghiradelli imported 200 pounds of cocoa beans and got to work. He established his company and kept it in his family for over 100 years. Eventually it sold to the makers of Rice-A-Roni, which was later bought by Quaker Oats. The company is now owned by Lindt and Sprungli, makers of Lindor and Lindt chocolates, which later bought Russel Stover. It's quite the candy empire, and it took Ghiradelli to worldwide fame. • • • •
