New Delhi: Construction work of a 550-bed charitable hospital, "Bala Sahib Hospital" at Gurdwara Bala Sahib in the capital began on Sunday to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced the donation of Rs 1 crore and 1 lakh for the construction of the hospital, while DSGMC General Secretary Harmeet Singh Kalka announced that it would bear the complete expenditure of shuttering of the hospital. Mr Sirsa said that the construction work on the Rs 500-crore Guru Harkrishan Institute of Medical Science and Research super speciality hospital, popularly called "Bala Sahib Hospital", to be set up on 55 bighas land, will be completed in the next two years while some clinical services at the new hospital are likely to start in the next six months initially in the cardiac and nephrology departments. The super speciality hospital will run a 100-seater medical college and 60-seat nursing college to meet the growing demand of medical professionals. The hospital will provide affordable quality medical care to around 5,000 patients daily from all over the country. 9 New Delhi, March 7, 2021 After remaining close for more than 20 years, Bala Sahib Hosptial in National Capital region started its operation with inauguration of India’s biggest Kidney dialysis hospital named after Panth Ratan Baba Harbans Singh ji by Baba Bachan Singh ji, in Gurudwara Bala Sahib complex here today. This will be a 24X7 facility for the people. Before formal inauguration Ardas was performed by Giani Ranjit Singh Head Granthi Gurudwara Bangla Sahib. The medical facility will provide free treatment and food to its patients. ”This will be the largest kidney dialysis centre in the country, which has capacity of conducting dialysis of 500 patients every day. In one go, 100 patients can be provided dialysis service. The service at the centre will be free. We haven’t built any cash or billing counter. The patients and their attendants will be served meals from the langar,” said DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa. A hospital is already functioning from the campus of the Gurdwara. The committee plans to shift entire existing medical infrastructure to a new building where the dialysis centre is located. ”The dialysis centre has been set up in one block of the new building. The DSGMC will source contributions from big corporate houses under their corporate social responsibility (CSR), individuals, and government schemes like Ayushman Bharat to run the hospital. Renowned dialysis specialist doctors of the country will manage the facility,” said Sirsa. New Delhi: The Guru Harkrishan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research’s new block at Delhi’s Gurdwara Bala Sahib was teeming with people Tuesday as the facility threw its doors open for those seeking free dialysis treatment.  Built by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), the 100-bed dialysis centre at the gurdwara in Sarai Kale Khan is being touted as India’s biggest dialysis centre. “So the idea behind this is that more than 30 per cent of kidney patients don’t have any access to the medical facilities, either they are so poor or they have sold every asset to cover this cost,” said DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa. He added: “The concept of the hospital is that we will not charge any money from the patients. There are many people who are coming out with the contributions, there are people who feel that humans should be served, there are corporate houses who are coming forward … funding it from CSR, so yes we will take all that and won’t charge from patients.” The facility had received over 1,500 registrations until Tuesday afternoon.
