Hardik Patel Will Join BJP On June 2 At Gandhinagar BJP Office Gujarat

New Delhi: Former Congress leader Hardik Patel who quit the grand-old party a few weeks ago will join the Bhartiya Janata Party. According to ABP News sources, the youth leader will join the saffron party on June 2, ahead of the Gujarat assembly elections scheduled for later this year. Sources have also confirmed that BJP will welcome Patel at their Gandhinagar office. Earlier, Patel had denied speculation that he will join the BJP on Monday, and took to Twitter to attack the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the killing of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. "I am not joining BJP tomorrow...will let you know if something like this happens," Patel told PTI after reports suggesting that the leader will soon be seen donning a saffron shawl. The Patidar quota agitation leader had recently resigned as the Gujarat Congress working president and from the party's primary membership. Before quitting, Patel (28), who had joined the Congress in 2019, wrote a scathing letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi, claiming the party "only played the role of a roadblock" over certain key issues in the country and was "merely reduced to opposing everything". He had also recently praised the BJP for its "decision making" leadership. "The recent decisions that BJP has taken politically, we have to accept that they have the strength to take such steps. I believe that without even taking their side or praising them, we can at least acknowledge the truth," Patel had said.

‘Will Be a One

Patel said, “AAP’s (aggression) shows because its national leaders are constantly travelling, and they are more in the media limelight even for the smallest things. They are in the whole of Gujarat. In the case of the Congress, all their leaders go to one place – Saurashtra, Surat, Vadodara. In front of them, their competing party (AAP) is doing meetings in all four corners in one day… Their (AAP) strategy is definitely better than the Congress’s,” The Indian Express reported. Hardik Patel's three-year stint in the Speaking on when Patel realised that he could no longer be a part of the Congress, he said that "if you are a social worker and an agitationist," then the Congress will offer support and "talk sweetly." However, in his case, for example, Patel said, "From 2015-18, they would talk to me, come to meet me, ask what could be done… Once I joined the party, they forgot all this. Then they saw me as a competitor," The Indian Express reported. Complaining about how even after becoming the working president, his pictures were not there in any party posters, Patel said, "I organised all the meetings myself, but did you see even a picture of the working president in any of the party posters? Was the working president just a lollipop? You didn’t even call me to important meetings, did not consult." He added, "The beginning (of the problem) was when my father died, that is one instance that left a deep impact. Not one Congress leader came (to see me)."

Explained: The cases against Hardik Patel, what they mean for his election prospects

Following Hardik Patel’s resignation from the Congress on May 18, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Jagdish Thakor claimed the Patidar leader feared he would be jailed in connection with the sedition cases filed against him and therefore sharan (refuge) of “someone”. What are the cases against Hardik, and how can they impact his political career? The Indian Express explains. Don't miss | In an undertaking before the Gujarat High Court in 2016 while seeking relief in relation to the cases lodged against him, Hardik had submitted on oath that “if granted discretionary reliefs”, he shall continue to protest to highlight the grievances of the Patidar community “without indulging directly or indirectly into any activity which may amount to an offence inviting criminal prosecution.” The undertaking further added, “(he) shall not do or indulge in any acts or activities disturbing the law and order across the state”, and that he shall not indulge in any acts or activities “instigating the public at large in any manner”. Subsequent rallies and protests stemming from the Patidar agitation of 2015 resulted in FIRs against Hardik in 2016, 2017 and 2018, a point that has often been used by the Gujarat government to oppose Hardik’s pleas for relief in terms of suspension of sentence, bail or any other relaxation in bail conditions. Most of these FIRs were related to violation of executive authority’s orders against unlawful assembly in violation of CrPC Political Pulse | What...

Criticise Rohit Sharma and the Indian team management all you want to - they probably deserve a fair bit of that too - for File photo of Hardik Pandya(Getty Images) The not-so-great batting credentials of India's seamers mean Shardul Thakur was also a certainty in the XI. Where India could have gambled was maybe to pick Ashwin in place of Umesh Yadav. But apart from that, the area where they really struggled was the absence of a genuine seam-bowling all-rounder. Say all you want but Shardul can't be considered a genuine all-rounder in any conditions despite his two impactful knocks in Australia and England. Did India not have a Test-quality seam-bowling all-rounder in their ranks? Of course they do, it's Hardik Pandya. Seeing the "Where is Hardik Pandya?" Nasser Hussain asks "At the toss this morning, it was so apparent that India were not sure about their side and Australia were crystal clear and Cameron Green has a lot to do with that. He just balances the side away from home in England. He is the sort of cricketer that India would have loved to have. Of course, Shardul Thakur is a seam-bowling all-rounder of kinds. In India, you've got Jadeja, Ashwin and Axar Patel. They are complete all-rounders in Indian conditions but what about a seam-bowling all-rounder when you go overseas? Where is Hardik Pandya?" Hussain asked in the commentary during the final session's play on Wednesday. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting said Hardik Pandya was asked about making himself a...
