Harshal has been the star performer for RCB over the past couple of seasons and took two wickets on Saturday night in the team’s seven wicket win over MI. “Unfortunately, Harshal had to leave the bio-bubble due to a death in his family. It was his sister. He did not take the team bus back to Mumbai from Pune,” said an IPL source. “He will be rejoining the bubble before the next game against CSK on April 12.” This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. IPL 2023

You went into the T20 World Cup in Australia confident you would be a key bowler, especially in Jasprit Bumrah's absence. But you did not get the opportunity. That must have been difficult. Yeah, it took me about a week to be okay with the fact that I might not play a single game in the tournament. It was sort of hard to digest. You are in the middle of a very important tournament and you are still hoping you might get a game. [For the] first three-four days, there's a bit of disbelief and you are thinking of a number of things which are out of your control. The first human reaction is: how could this happen? But as your rational self takes over, you realise this is outside your control. I can't do anything about selection. All I can do is keep pushing my case, and if I still don't play a single game after that, then I have to be okay with the fact and do whatever I can to contribute in the team. So I picked up the bat, started working on a few things with Vikram Rathour [India's batting coach]. It became a little easier as time went on. When you are part of a World Cup team, the coaches are presumably busy. Did you find the opportunity to have a word with someone like the head coach, Rahul Dravid? I had a chat with him after the second game. He said [not selecting me] was a tactical move. He said you were in contention almost till the day of the first game [against Pakistan] and then we decided to go with [Mohammed] Shami. The coach and the captain's job is to pick the be...

Harshal Patel Profile

A right-arm seamer with a big outswinger, Harshal Patel could have moved to the USA with his family, but he stayed on in India to pursue cricket. After taking 23 wickets at an impressive average of 11 in the 2008-09 Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, Harshal made his List-A debut for Gujarat in 2008-09. Harshal also played for India in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand and soon bagged an IPL contract with Mumbai Indians. Unable to find a place in the Gujarat side, Harshal moved to Haryana and made an immediate impact in his debut Ranji Trophy season in 2011-12, running through Karnataka and Rajasthan with eight-fors in the quarter-final and semi-final. He finished that Ranji season with 28 wickets and made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Delhi Daredevils in the 2012 edition. Harshal, however, was largely seen as a back-up seamer in the franchise set-up, instead of a first-choice option. He did not get a game in IPL 2013, but was bought back by the franchise in the 2014 player auction. While his first-class form dipped in between, he made a strong comeback in the 2015-16 season. His tally of 22 wickets in Ranji Trophy 2015-16 added to a haul of 13 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, in which he also picked up his maiden List A five-for. He was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the IPL 2016 player auction. After fighting through a period of self-doubts, Harshal roared back by picking up 52 wickets in nine matches at the 2019-20 Ranji ...
