In the South Korean I Saw the Devil, Kyung-chul is a dangerous psychopath who has committed unimaginably diabolical serial murders for pleasure with a wide range of victims. What would you do if a monster took your loved ones from you? Some might not like to admit it, but pre-emptive fantasies of retribution have a cathartic quality, giving us a sense that we could take control of the narrative in a dreaded scenario.
