Hotter days are incoming for Delhi NCR residents after light rains this week. As per the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is likely to witness clear skies with dry weather over the next few days. As per the latest weather update, the primary weather station of Delhi at Safdarjung recorded a minimum of 27.3 degrees Celsius on Friday, which is normal for this time of the year. IMD expects the maximum temperature to likely settle around 41 degrees Celsius. Monsoon hit mainland India on Thursday as the onset over Kerala was declared by the IMD declaring a week after the usual date of June 1. A delay of 4 days had been predicted earlier but the monsoon was further delayed by the Arabian Sea cyclone. Monsoon winds reach Delhi around June 27 normally. (Inputs from PTI)

The very severe cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ intensified into an “extremely severe cyclonic storm" and is likely to make landfall near Mandvi-Jakhau Port along the Saurashtra-Kutch coasts. In view of the impending landfall and the storm, Gujarat has been placed on high alert. On June 14, IMD has declared an orange alert for all districts, while on June 15 a red alert has been issued across the state. On Thursday, the cyclone is expected to be the strongest, and this would lead to extremely heavy rainfall in coastal areas of Gujarat, IMD Director General, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said. The rainfall will especially hit on the coastal areas of Gujarat. This could lead to inundation of coastal and low-lying areas. As the cyclonic will give way to very gusty winds, some damage to tin houses, electrical lines could be seen. Meanwhile, Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting to review the situation related to Cyclone Biparjoy today, while authorities have started evacuating people in districts by the sea in view of the cyclone. The landfall is predicted on the evening of June 14.
