Mohammad Reza Hakimi Translated by Mohammad Al-Jawad Shomali Chapter al-Qadr (97) of the Holy Qur’an is a short chapter containing five verses in which Allah (swt) promises a night during which the angels descend with God’s command. In this paper, we will discuss some aspects of this blessed night and the relationship of these verses to the Imam of our Time (a). Chapter Al-Qadr بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ In the Name of God, the All-Beneficent, the All- Merciful إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ Indeed we sent it down on the Night of Ordainment. ( وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ What will show you what is the Night of Ordainment? ( لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ The Night of Ordainment is better than a thousand months. ( تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْ مِنْ كُلِّ أَمْرٍ In it the angels and the Spirit descend, by the leave of their Lord, with every command. ( سَلَامٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ It is peace until the rising of the dawn. ( A serious reading of this Chapter causes one to ponder about several questions whose answers are not literally available in the chapter itself. What is this great command? Which night is this night? Which night is the auspicious night during which God sent down the Quran? Which precious moments are the moments of the night that is better than a thousand months? Surah Al-Qadr (Inna anZalna) 97 "Almighty Allah (swt) releases from Hellfire one million persons in the last hour everyday in the month of Ramadhan; therefore pray to Almighty Allah (swt) to include you with these released ones" It is highly advised not to neglect the suhur (meal before starting fast) even if a single date or drink of water are had. A Hadith reads that Allah swt. and his angels bless those who seek forgiveness in the last hours of the night and have the meal before starting their fasts."
