Apple iPhone 7 Review

The main visual changes are a larger camera bump on the back, signifying the better lens and optical image stabilization in the new camera, and the lack of a headphone jack on the bottom, replaced by a grille for the barometer vent. The Taptic home button looks the same as last year's, but it's a virtual rather than a physical button. See It (Opens in a new window) The 4.7-inch, 1,334-by-750 screen looks exactly like the iPhone 6s screen, and in practice, I can't tell the difference. But display scientist (Opens in a new window) can, and he says it's the best LCD on the market, both brighter and less reflective than last year's model. It still falls short of AMOLED displays in viewing angles and features like always-on capability. The iPhone 7 line is now water resistant: IP67 certification means you can dunk it in shallow water for half an hour. And in addition to Gold, Rose Gold, and Silver, it comes in two new colors this year. The glossy Jet Black is gorgeous, but it's prone to scratching and picks up fingerprints like no one's business. Matte Black is easier to maintain, and arguably just as attractive. A new PRODUCT (RED) model launched in 2017 has a red back panel and edges with a white face. Storage options have changed as well. The base model starts at 32GB for $649, and increases to 128GB for $749, and 256GB for $849. Most users will be happy with the 128GB model, especially if you like to record a lot of video or play games. Battery and Performance Apple says th...

Apple iPhone 7 Plus Review

Cons • Lacks a 3.5mm jack, and there aren't a lot of Lightning-compatible headphones yet. • Not all models are compatible with all carriers. For the first time, we're recommending the big phone—in this case, the iPhone 7 Plus—as the iPhone to get this year. Apple's two new What's New This Year? The iPhone 7 Plus is exactly the size of last year's The main visual changes are a larger camera bump on the back for the dual 12MP rear cameras, and the lack of a headphone jack on the bottom, replaced by a grille for the barometer vent. The Taptic home button looks the same as last year's, but it's a virtual rather than a physical button. According to various sources, Apple made the switch in part because of an urban legend about mechanical home buttons (Opens in a new window) and reducing the resale value of phones. See It (Opens in a new window) Whether you think the Taptic home button is weird depends entirely on whether you've used handsets other than iPhones. As a reviewer, I spend most of my year with non-iPhones, so I find it completely normal to use; it feels like a home button. It responds quickly, and you can even tune the haptic response (which is essentially a vibration) to your tastes. The new haptic engine also helps enhance gaming, offering a range of stuttering and buzzing responses to screen taps in general. Phones are fashion objects, and three new colors join the iPhone array. Jet Black, which is glossy but very grippy, is gorgeous. It's also the world's worst f...

Apple iPhone 7 review: The last

I started with CNET reviewing laptops in 2009. Now I explore wearable tech, VR/AR, tablets, gaming and future/emerging trends in our changing world. Other obsessions include magic, immersive theater, puzzles, board games, cooking, improv and the New York Jets. My background includes an MFA in theater which I apply to thinking about immersive experiences of the future. The gap between iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 isn’t as great as you think, and for the right price, this is still an excellent pick if you’re not chasing the latest bleeding-edge iPhone and want to save some money. The iPhone 7 is a year and a half old, and will hit two years in September when new iPhones are probably arriving. Where does that leave you, possible iPhone shopper? The iPhone 7 isn't a bad place to land if you're bargain shopping and want the basics, as it starts at only $549 for 32GB. It has a nearly identical physical design to the iPhone 8, water resistance for spills or pool drops, a solid haptic feedback home button...and no headphone jack. The iPhone 7 doesn't have wireless charging like the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, but does that matter? Lightning works fine. This could also be the best time to consider older hardware, as Apple's upcoming iOS 12 software update promises big performance boosts on years-old phones and iPads. The iPhone 7 already has a really good A10 processor, and it could run even better by the fall (when have we ever said that?). That's hypothetical for the moment, since we haven't...

iPhone 7: Everything we know

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, first released in 2016, are no longer flagship Apple devices, having been replaced by the Apple stopped selling the iPhone 7 on September 10, 2019, following the debut of the new 2019 iPhone lineup. Priced starting at $449 for a 64GB iPhone 7 or $569 for an iPhone 7 Plus, the two older iPhones are more affordable than the $599 iPhone 8, the $699 iPhone 8 Plus, $749 iPhone XR, the $999 iPhone XS, and the $1099 iPhone XS Max. iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus Specs and Features Contents • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • As of September 2017, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have been replaced by the On the surface, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus devices don't look very different from the previous-generation iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, continuing to feature the same 4.7 and 5.5-inch screen sizes and the same dimensions, but there are a few visual differences and several important internal changes. Antenna bands no longer span across the back of the devices, for a cleaner, sleeker look, and there are new colors being sold alongside the standard Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold shades: a matte black color Apple is just calling "Black" and a "Jet Black" with a high-gloss finish. Most notably when it comes to design, the body of the iPhone 7 has been reengineered to be IP67 dust and water resistant, so it can hold up to splashes, rain, and brief submersion in water. Apple's warranty doesn't cover water damage, though, so i...
