Karan Johar Reveals Why Never Offered Irrfan Khan A Film: 'He Was Way Stronger Than Anything I Could...'

Karan Johar is one of the top filmmakers in Hindi cinema, and recently, he opened up about why he never offered any movie to late Irrfan Khan. In an interview with journalist-author Shubhra Gupta for her book titled Irrfan: A Life in Movies, the filmmaker stated that he didn't want to be the one who gave a substandard mainstream movie to an actor like Irrfan. The filmmaker said that the late actor was way stronger than anything he could have ever offered him. KJo added that he never arrived at a screenplay, a film, or even a thought that would warrant the "presence of the maginute that Irrfan brought to the table." He went on to add that he never wanted to be the blotch in Irrfan's otherwise "beauteous career graph." Karan stated that no actor could bring the "characteristics—charisma, cinema intellect, presence, performance—" to the table that Irrfan could. He added that one can slot other actors into boxes but cannot generalise about Irrfan Khan. He said, "He was so unique and individualistic." Karan also expressed that he couldn't look beyond the big names of Bollywood and spectacle films at the beginning of his career. Karan's next film, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, has been scheduled to release in July 2023. The movie also features Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, and Jaya Bachchan in pivotal roles.
