Byelection 2023 Results We Have Entered Lok Sabha Very Soon We Will Get Majority Also Arvind Kejriwal Jalandhar Bypoll Victory

After Aam Aadmi Party's victory in Jalandhar byelection, party's national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lauded the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government and said that the party has entered the Lok Sabha now and will soon attain majority as well. Kejriwal also said that the party has only done politics of work and not of caste or religion. "The people of Jalandhar have approved the works of Bhagwant Mann government. We only do politics of work. We have entered the Lok Sabha and very soon we will get majority in lok sabha," Kejriwal said. "We only do politics of work, neither we dopolitics of religion nor we do politics of caste. We seek votes on the basis of that only. Jalandhar by-election shows that people have stamped on Bhagwant Mann's government to keep working like this, we are with you, he added. AAP candidate Sushil Rinku won the bypoll and defeated his nearest rival and Congress nominee Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary. Congress has been removed from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat after 24 years. The victory registered by Aam Aadmi Party's Sushil Rinku has again opened the doors of Lok Sabha for the party. Earlier Bhagwant Mann was the only AAP MP. Since 1999, the Jalandhar seat was held by the Congress. The Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat fell vacant following the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary due to a cardiac arrest during the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra in January. It witnessed a four-cornered electoral battle involving the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (A...

Breaching the Congress bastion of Jalandhar, AAP gets a spring in its step

Jalandhar LS bypoll | Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring concedes defeat Mr. Sushil, a former Congress MLA won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat by securing 3,02,279 votes as the AAP candidate. He defeated his nearest rival of the Congress party Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary by 58,691 votes. Mrs. Chaudhary got 2,43,588 votes. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi got 1,58,445 votes to stay in third place. He was the joint candidate of the SAD and Bahujan Samaj Party. The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal secured 1,48,00 votes to remain at the fourth spot. Jolt for Congress The by-poll result has come as a jolt for the Congress party as Jalandhar parliamentary seat has traditionally been a Congress party’s stronghold. Out of a total of 18 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has won 14 times and lost just four times. Since the year 1999, Congress did not lose the Jalandhar parliamentary constituency until now. For the ruling AAP, the win has come as a respite as the by-election was being keenly watched against the backdrop of AAP’s popularity, which has been in power for over a year in Punjab and sought votes on its ‘performance’ and ‘policies’. The AAP made its way in Punjab with a thumping majority in the year 2022, but just three months after coming to power, the AAP had suffered its first jolt when the party lost the parliamentary by-election to the Sangrur constituency, which was considered the party’s bastion. The ...

The Sangrur parliamentary seat fell vacant after Mann resigned as an MP after being elected to the Punjab assembly. The AAP currently has 10 members in Rajya Sabha. The Jalandhar by-polls were held on 10 May. It recorded a voter turnout of 54.70%. It was well below the 63.04% recorded in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Jalandhar seat had fallen vacant following the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary in January. The ruling AAP is hoping to mark its presence in the Lok Sabha by registering a victory in the bypoll. A win will be a boost for the party, which had faced a drubbing in the Lok Sabha bypoll in Sangrur, just three months after it stormed to power in Punjab in March 2022. The bypoll is also being seen as a test of the one-year performance of the Bhagwant Mann-led government, which has been promoting its moves to provide free electricity and jobs to the youths, regularise services of contractual employees, action against corruption and opening mohalla clinics, among others. The Congress, on the other hand, is looking to retain Jalandhar, a traditional stronghold for the party, which has remained undefeated from the seat since 1999. The stakes are also high for the Bharatiya Janata Party and the SAD after their defeats in the assembly election.

For AAP, road to 2024 — and Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha seats — goes via Jalandhar

• • • • For AAP, road to 2024 — and Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha seats — goes via Jalandhar For AAP, road to 2024 — and Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha seats — goes via Jalandhar On Saturday, Sushil Kumar Rinku, a Congress import, secured for the AAP a formidable victory in the bypoll to the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. He got 3,02,279 votes or 34 per cent of total votes polled. For the Aam Aadmi Party, the road to 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab in 2024 begins from Jalandhar. The AAP on Saturday wrested the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat from the Congress ending the grand old party’s unbeaten run in the Dalit stronghold since 1999. Sushil Kumar Rinku, who joined the AAP after quitting the Congress ahead of the byelection, won against Congress’s Karamjit Kaur, the wife of two-time MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary whose death had necessitated the bypoll, with a margin of 58,691 votes. Rinku’s victory came following a massive mobilisation, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convenor Both Mann and Kejriwal promised tremendous development of Jalandhar. “Jalandhar nu Chamka devange, je tusi Jharoo da battan dabbya (Vote for AAP and we will develop Jalandhar)”. They both said that pressing the “button (in the EVM) against the broom (AAPmsymbol)”, means “pressing the button of tremendous development, progress and prosperity of the constituency”. Among other announcements, they promised to build a hospital on the lines of PGIMER, “If they asked for our votes in lieu of completing all these works in ...

Jalandhar Lok Sabha Bypoll: Can Sushil Rinku’s inclusion in fold change AAP’s fortune? : The Tribune India

Tribune News Service Deepkamal Kaur Jalandhar. April 9 The choice of aggressive Ravidassia leader Sushil Rinku as the candidate of Aam Aadmi Party for the May 10 Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll has clearly brought the ruling party in competition with the Congress, which till his joining had a clear upper hand. But a question which is on everyone’s mind is whether Rinku will be able to take the party to the winning position. Ahead of 2022 Assembly polls when there was a huge wave in favour of AAP across Majha and Malwa, Jalandhar still went with the Congress electing five of its MLAs in the total nine seats. The winning ratio could have been 6:3 had Congress leader Rajinder Beri from Jalandhar Central managed to poll 247 more votes. Calculated cumulatively, while the Congress polled 3.68 lakh votes for all nine Assembly seats in 2022, AAP trailed at 3.17 lakh votes, falling short of nearly 51,000 votes. AAP won from Jalandhar Central, Jalandhar West, Kartarpur and Nakodar seats but its candidates remained on the third position in Shahkot, Adampur and Jalandhar North seats, where it currently needs to focus. While Rinku will be able to make gains for AAP from the city owing to his personal connect, he will have to work hard in the larger rural belt. AAP gained significantly in 2022 in comparison to 2019 Lok Sabha polls when Justice Zora Singh finished fourth from here polling only 25,467 votes. AAP’s voteshare in the last Parliamentary polls was just 2.5 per cent, partly because ...

Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll a challenge for AAP : The Tribune India

Tribune News Service Vishav Bharti Chandigarh, January 15 With untimely demise of Santokh Singh Chaudhary, another Lok Sabha byelection is going to be an acid test for the ruling AAP within a year of formation of the government. To be held within 6 months • As per Section 151-A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, bypoll is to be conducted within a period of six months from the date of occurrence of the vacancy • However, a bypoll is not conducted if the remainder of the term of a member (who is deceased or unseated) in relation to vacancy is less than one year Earlier, AAP had lost the Sangrur Lok Sabha bypoll in June last year to Simranjit Singh Mann of Shiromani Akali Dal (A). The seat was vacated by Bhagwant Mann, who had resigned after taking oath as Chief Minister, in March 2022. Experts feel that after Sangrur, the Jalandhar Lok Sabha byelection will be another test for AAP, which came to power by winning 92 Assembly seats. The state is likely to witness an interesting contest as, going by the past trends, the Jalandhar constituency (reserved) has remained a strong bastion of the Congress. The grand-old party has won this seat 14 times since the first General Election. And the party has not lost this Lok Sabha seat since 1999. In the entire history of this segment, the Congress lost this seat just four times, including in 1977 after the Emergency, then to Janata Dal’s Inder Kumar Gujaral in 1989 and 1996 and 1999. As far as AAP’s performance is concerned, ...
