Jamia Millia Islamia to adopt CUET for 10 undergraduate courses

Unlike other central government universities in the national Capital that have adopted the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for nearly all courses, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has opted for the CUET for admitting students to 10 undergraduate programmes in the 2022-23 academic session. With the declaration of CUET results, students will have to wait for the university’s merit list now. (File image) The university already has an entrance mechanism in place and admits students in both undergraduate and postgraduate through an examination. University officials said the varsity had taken the decision to adopt CUET for select courses in its maiden year. The decision was also communicated to the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Testing Agency (NTA). University officials said the varsity will review its decision on CUET next year based on this year’s experience. Express News Service NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia will admit students to eight courses through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) during the 2022-23 academic session. The courses for which the CUET will be held are BA Hons Hindi, BA Hons Sanskrit, BA Hons french, BA Hons economics, BA Hons history, BSc biotechnology and B.Vocal (solar energy). Jamia registrar, Nazim Hussain Jafri said the university took this decision in a meeting attended by the top officials. A senior official of Jamia on Monday stated that they have shared their admission process and the number of subjects for which they will hold the CUET to the UGC and will wait for the reply. On March 22, when UGC had issued the notification regarding CUET, Jamia Vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar had said the Varsity already conducts common entrance exams for many UG courses, including BCom, so the committee will decide which all courses need to be added. Students are advised to follow university websites www.jmi.ac.in and http://jmicoe.in for updates regarding courses and other details. Jamia to admit students via CUET for 8 UG courses

Jamia Millia Islamia has decided to hold admissions for eight courses through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in the 2022-23 academic session, the university’s Registrar told The Indian Express on Monday. For the remaining courses, it will hold admissions as per past practice through its own entrance exams. “We will hold entrances of eight courses through the CUET. For the remaining courses, we will hold admissions through our own entrances. Once we hold admissions to these eight courses through CUET, and once we have experience based on these courses, then we will think about what to do for the rest of the courses,” Registrar Nazim Hussain Jafri told The Indian Express. In a statement, Jamia PRO Ahmed Azeem said, “It has been decided in a meeting attended by top officials of the university that admissions for selected undergraduate courses will be done through CUET. The university has communicated to the University Grants Commission (UGC) and National Testing Agency (NTA) about the same.” Asked if the UGC would accept the decision of Jamia — especially with it being a Central University — Jafri said, “I don’t know about all this.
