A look at top five fastest deliveries bowled by Indian pacers in history

When it comes to cricket, India has a long history of producing world-class batsmen and artistic spinners. In India, the pool of fast bowlers has always been thin, with only a few of them making it to the international stage and demonstrating their worth in the past century. However, since the inception of the Indian Premier League and the rise of Indian cricket as a whole, this has altered. India has evolved into a centre for batsmen and spinners, and fast bowlers who can crush any batting line-up on any surface, as the Jasprit Bumrah-led pace attack in England and Australia recently showed. Fastest deliveries bowled by Indian pacers Former Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath holds the record for bowling the fastest delivery ever by an Indian speedster. During India's 1996/97 tour of South Africa, Srinath made it to the history books by registering the fastest delivery bowled by an Indian bowler. The Karnataka paceman clocked one of the deliveries at 157 kmph. The record still stands tall as no other Indian bowler has been able to breach the 157 kmph-mark. Gujarat pacer Jasprit Bumrah holds the record for bowling the second fastest delivery by an Indian bowler. Bumrah clocked 153.26 kmph on the speedometer during the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2018. Bumrah also finished the series as the joint highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets. Navdeep Saini and Ishant Sharma have their names etched in the record books after bowling the fourth and the fifth-fastest ...

Umran Malik breaks Jasprit Bumrah's record to become fastest Indian bowler

India’s pace sensation Umran Malik clocked in 155 kph on the speed radar in the first T20I against Sri Lanka to become the fastest Indian bowler overshadowing Jasprit Bumrah’s record. The Jammu-born pacer surpassed Bumrah’s record of 153.36 kph to earn the tag to be the fastest Indian bowler. Bumrah however, will have the chance to snatch the fastest bowler tag when he makes a comeback from his injury in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, beginning on January 10. Pacer Mohammed Shami is third on the list for bowling the fastest delivery. He racked up his pace to 153.3 kph while Navdeep Saini is fourth recording 152.85 kph on the speed gun. The delivery was not only the fastest of the match but was pivotal too as it got rid of Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka who was bamboozling the Indian attack up until then. Malik turned the match on its head for the hosts as Shanaka was dismissed for 45 off 27 balls on the 155 kph lightning-quick delivery, leaving Sri Lanka in a spot of bother needing 34 off 20 balls with just three wickets in hand. Bangladesh vs Afghanistan: Visitors confident of their chances in one-off Test without Rashid Khan Alick Athanaze, somersaulting Kevin Sinclair help West Indies to 3-0 UAE sweep However, the bowler has attained speeds greater than 155 kph. He clocked in 156.9 kph while playing in the IPL 2022 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against Delhi Daredevils. The delivery was the second fastest of IPL 2022 just behind Lockie Ferguson’s 157.3 kph delivery. P...

Masterful Jasprit Bumrah the true architect of India’s triumph

T he signs were there, if you wanted to see them. England’s batsmen emerged for the start of day five full of vigour and hope, buoyed by their unbeaten start the previous evening and a crowd that believed, against the weight of history and perhaps its own better sense. The first run was greeted like a divine blessing. The first boundary from Rory Burns was roared every inch of its way to the rope. Meanwhile, at the other end, Jasprit Bumrah was quietly completing a spell of four overs for three runs. It was a day on which cricket’s master of disguise took on at least half a dozen guises: talisman, calm head, tail-end intimidator, new-ball craftsman, reverse‑swing guru, yorker‑summoning necromancer. All that, though, was still to come. And here, with the target still distant and the required rate rising, Bumrah was slowly, incrementally whittling down England’s chances of victory. In a way, Bumrah set up the day as he later set up England’s batsmen: starving, stifling, strangling, sadistically eliminating all other possibilities until only one remained. As much as Shardul Thakur with his golden arm or Ravindra Jadeja with his perseverance or Umesh Yadav with his late plunder, it was Bumrah who mapped out this Indian triumph from start to finish. And at the bejewelled heart of this performance was the electrifying afternoon spell – on a par with any produced by an Indian bowler in foreign conditions – that broke this game in half. It began immediately after lunch, and again ...
