James Harden, Sixers discuss latest on Joel Embiid ahead of Game 1

CAMDEN, N.J.–Another day, another Joel Embiid update as the Philadelphia 76ers move forward to prepare for Game 1 against the Boston Celtics. The Sixers have been practicing all week in preparation for the Cs and Sunday was another opportunity to do so before the semifinals begin. Embiid was seen shooting around after practice on Sunday afternoon and it gave some hope that maybe the big fella will be ready to go for Monday. He has been dealing with a sprained LCL in his right knee and he has been listed as For the Sixers, they will need Embiid to have any shot to beat the Celtics in this series. The James Harden-Embiid duo has been terrific out on the floor so The Beard will need his star teammate out there with him. “We communicate often,” said Harden. “Especially, these last few days as far as him and how he feels and things like that. I think today (Sunday) was his first time shooting. It’s up to Joel. It’s up to him when his body feels like he’s ready to come back or even if his body isn’t 100%, he’s still like ‘I’m gonna go out there and hoop and try and figure it out’ so that’s all on him.” And there’s Joel Embiid — Ky Carlin (@Ky_Carlin) Harden is correct that it will be on Embiid and his pain tolerance at this point. He has had plenty of time off and it will be on him to see if he can give it a go. “I think nobody in the world can have that mindset other than Joel Embiid,” Harden added. “Obviously, we know the value that he brings to our team and what he’s been doi...

Joel Embiid suffered plantar fasciitis during summer, slowed his conditioning

Joel Embiid in the second half: 0 PTS 0-7 FG 3 TOV — StatMuse (@statmuse) Doc Rivers gave an explanation on Friday: Embiid battled plantar fasciitis over the summer, which slowed his conditioning, and he’s trying to play his way into shape. Here’s the quote, “He had a little plantar fasciitis before the season started — before training camp — and that took him off his conditioning program,” Rivers said. “And so he’s back on that. But listen, he’s playing with the right intentions. He just didn’t play well, and that’s OK, too. That’s going to happen. We’ve still got to win those games.” Philadelphia didn’t win those games, they are 0-2, although those games were against Embiid didn’t mention plantar fasciitis — an inflammation of the cartilage that runs along the bottom of the foot, making it painful to walk or run — when asked before the season if he was healthy. However, Levick notes that after one preseason game, Embiid said, “I’ve had an on-and-off summer as far as being able to really do stuff on the basketball court.” The 76ers schedule softens up for a couple of games — Spurs and Pacers — before a four-game road trip that starts in Toronto. For that to happen, Embiid needs to play himself into peak shape. It’s a long season, but in a deep and unforgiving East the Sixers can’t wait too long.

Doc Rivers opens up on Joel Embiid, James Harden, Sixers after firing

The Philadelphia 76ers moved on from Doc Rivers after three seasons on the job due to his inability to guide the Sixers past the second round of the playoffs. Philadelphia fell in the Eastern Conference semifinals in all three seasons under his guidance. There were some good things the Sixers accomplished under Rivers. They went 154-82 during his tenure, and the Sixers were the No. 1 seed in 2021 for the first time since 2001. They had bad luck in terms of injuries to Joel Embiid, and James Harden was not the same scorer he once was. Rivers hopped on No. 1, he has to be healthy. In the playoffs and this was the healthiest, but he still wasn’t 100%. Then No. 2 for Jo, is he’s got to make all his players better in the playoffs and Jo, his numbers are unfair, because he’s really — if you look at his numbers in the last three years in the playoffs, compared to his regular season numbers, they’re not very good. But a lot of that is due — the first year I had him he hurts his knee. The next year, he hits his face and tears ligaments in his hand, and then this year he has a knee injury and he was never the same once he came back this year. So health is No. 1. Then the second thing is Jo and he has the ability, I stayed on him daily. He has the ability to make his teammates better and when he does it, if you look at our games this year when he did that and dominated, hard to go away from Joel Embiid. It really is. He’s just got to do that on a consistent basis. Not just on the cou...

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid erupted for 50 points, tying his career-high in a Embiid ties his career-high with 50 PTS vs. the Magic 😳 — NBA on TNT (@NBAonTNT) Embiid started out hot and never slowed down, dropping more points in the first half (24 points, 9-13 FGs) than the rest of the 76ers combined (23 points, 10-27 FGs) while also going perfect from the line (6-6 FTs) all before the 2nd quarter buzzer. The Sixers came out in the second half down by 10 points and Embiid quickly helped turn things around, hitting a tough fadeaway jumper in the opening minute of the 3rd quarter, which would be 2 of his 23 total points in the that quarter alone to give Philly a 14-point lead entering the final period. While the Magic fought to get back in, the 76ers showed they were too much to handle behind the play of Embiid who reentered the game with 7:23 remaining in the 4th quarter when he was fouled almost immediately and headed to the line for two more points. In fact, all of Embiid’s 4th-quarter points (3) were free throws as Orlando desperately tried to slow down the sizzling big man. Four-time All-Star Joel Embiid is showing why he's among the best players in the league this season. Less than a minute later, he was fouled again and returned to the free-throw line where he hit his first attempt to reach his career-high mark. After missing the second, Embiid walked t...

When the Embiid sustained a sprained LCL in his right knee during Game 3 of Philadelphia's first-round sweep of the The Athletic's Shams Charania reports that Embiid's injury is considered to be more serious than that and that Embiid was on the court Monday morning at shootaround in Boston, but Rivers said that he didn't do any running. Sorry! There was an error processing your subscription. Last season, Embiid suffered a concussion and orbital bone fracture during the first round against Toronto which caused him to miss the first two games of the following series against Miami. Unsurprisingly, the Sixers dropped both of those games and they went on to lose the series 4-2. Had Embiid been available for those two games, the series might have turned out differently. As Rivers mentioned, the hope is that Embiid could play in Game 2. But missing a game or two could swing an entire series, just as it did last season against the
