Kalyanam Kamaneeyam Movie Review: It’s a simple and aesthetically pleasing romantic drama

Story: Siva (Santosh Soban) is a youngster searching for a job, and Sruthi (Priya Bhavani Shankar) is a software employee. Both of them have been in love and decided to get hitched. Sruthi believes, for Siva, landing a job is just a matter of time. But how long will that belief last before things get complicated? Will there be a happy ending? Review: Joining the list of Sankranti releases alongside some of the big commercial entertainers Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy, Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya and Vijay’s Varasudu, this film, Kalyanam Kamaneeyam offers a relatively simple and plain entertainment, unlike the others. The first half has a touch of a well-shot wedding film with flavoursome cinematography, nuanced performances and a lovely young couple. And the second half presents conflicts that life throws at them and the complications that arise because of them. Siva is an unemployed yet responsible husband, and Sruti is a software engineer and a loving wife. With both families accepting their relationship and nodding yes to their marriage after a bit of discussion, life appears to be a book of fairytales. But getting a software job becomes the biggest challenge for Siva, and circumstances around him make things complicated. A relatable tale but a plain one with no heightened drama. The strong rallying point is that the film has its heart in place. If you are receptive enough, you might pick up a message from the conflicts and resolutions. One of the noticeable aspect...

‘Kalyanam Kamaneeyam’ Telugu movie review: Santosh Soban, Priya Bhavani Shankar’s film is a vanilla story that needed some zing

The third Telugu film to hit the screens for Sankranti, debut writer-director’s relationship drama Kalyanam Kamaneeyam starring Santosh Soban and Priya Bhavani Shankar, can be described as vanilla ice cream. Plain and basic. In the pre-release interviews, the team had stated that the story is reminiscent of real life situations where there isn’t much drama with twists and turns. The narrative echoes that sentiment. But if a film doesn’t make you empathise with or root for the characters, is it enough? Kalyanam Kamaneeyam begins with the protagonists Shiva (Santosh Soban) and Shruti (Priya Bhavani Shankar) getting married. She is a software engineer and he, supposedly a bright student in college and with good skill sets, is in search of a job. Shruti gladly takes on the financial responsibilities. Shiva is acutely aware of his situation and takes all the barbs that his father (Kedar Shankar), who he describes as a home guard without a uniform, aims at him. Santosh plays Shiva with restraint and showcases the character’s happiness and gratitude at having found an understanding life partner who accepts him for what he is. The man-child sort of character is written with oft-explored traits — he lazes around at home while she is away at work, so much so that the house help also doesn’t respect him. And Priya Bhavani Shankar is adequate as Shruti. Kalyanam Kamaneeyam Cast: Santosh Soban, Priya Bhavani Shankar Direction: Anil Kumar Aalla Music: Shravan Bharadwaj Karthik Ghattaman...
