Fire Breaks Out In Stall At Kanpur Central Stn

Kanpur: A fire broke out in a vending stall at Kanpur Central's platform no. 9 on Monday afternoon. According to the report, the goods kept atop the roof of the stall were gutted in the fire. However, no casualty has been reported. Two fire tenders from Latouche Road were rushed to the spot after being informed about the blaze. The GRP police personnel within no time cordoned off the mishap site. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. While speaking to the media, GRP in-charge Kanpur Central RK Dwivedi said, "The fire was brought under control, and there are no injuries." The preliminary investigation found that set norms with regard to fire prevention had not been followed in the stall, he further said. tnn

By India Today News Desk: Three farmers died allegedly after being run over by a car of a Public Works Department (PWD) official in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur. The incident took place in Bilhaur town on Monday evening, according to the police. The accused driver, Ajeet Kumar Pandey, was arrested after he attempted to flee. An initial probe hinted at negligence on the part of the driver, who was in an inebriated state while driving the car. The deceased farmers have been identified as Surendra Singh (62), Ahibaran Singh (63) and Ghaseete Yadav (65), Uttar Pradesh Police said. The police have said that all three died on the spot. The three elderly farmers, all residents of Billhaur, were standing on the side of the road to take care of their orchards, the police said.

Pandey was on his way to Ayodhya after dropping the junior engineer’s family in Sikandara in Kanpur Dehat when he lost control of the vehicle on the Lucknow-Etawah road and ran over Surendra Singh (62), Ahibaran Singh (63) and Ghaseete Yadav (65), police said. The three elderly farmers, all residents of Billhaur, were standing on the side of the road to take care of their orchards, they said, adding that all three died on the spot. “We suspect that Pandey was driving the vehicle rashly and negligently when the fatal accident took place, " the SHO said. The accused driver who fled from the spot after the accident, leaving the damaged SUV car behind, was later arrested, he said. An FIR has also been registered under relevant sections of the IPC at Bilhaur police station, the SHO added.

31 Killed, Over 30 Injured In UP's Kanpur In 2 Accidents Within Hours

Kanpur: At least 31 people were killed and more than 30injuredin two separate accidents in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur last night, officials have said. The first accident occurred when a tractor trolley, carrying around 50 pilgrims, overturned and fell into a pond near Ghatampur area. At least 26 pilgrims, most of them women and children, died in the mishap,while more than 20were severely injured, officials said. The tractor was returning from Chandrika Devi temple in Unnao when the tragedy struck. The injured were moved to a local hospital, policesaid, adding that the station in-charge of Sarh police station has been suspended for negligence. According to news agency ANI, the action was taken against the official over delay in rushing the police force to the accident spot. In thesecond road accident in the city last night, five people were killed and 10 othersinjured after a speeding truck rammed into a loader tempo near Ahirwan flyover. The injured have been admitted to hospital for treatment, police said. Joint Commissioner of Police Anand Prakash Tiwari said an investigation has been launched into the matter and efforts are being made to trace the truck.
