V.R. Sudarshan set to become KPSC Chairman

Former Chairman of the Legislative Council and Congress leader V.R. Sudarshan (58) is likely to be appointed chairman of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). The State government has despatched a file recommending Mr. Sudarshan’s name to the KPSC chairman’s post, to the Raj Bhavan for Governor Vajubhai Vala’s approval. Mr. Sudarshan, three-time MLC, belongs to an OBC (Ganiga) category, and he hails from Vemagal in Kolar district. He had served on many legislative committees on various subjects and select committees. It is learnt that the government has also recommended names of seven candidates as members of the KPSC. The chairman’s post is for a six-year tenure, or till the incumbent turns 65 years, whichever is earlier. The KPSC chairman’s post has remained vacant ever since the previous chairman, Gonal Bhimappa’s, term ended last year. The immediate role for the new chairman would be to fill 452 Group A and B gazetted probationers’ posts for 2015. In Koppal, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended the recommendation of Mr. Sudarshan to the post.
