1.1 Sub-topics covered under Motion in a Straight Line Motion in a Straight Line Class 11 CBSE Revision Notes Motion in a Straight Line Class 11 Notes – The chapter teaches that path length transverse by an object between two points. Generally, the magnitude and displacement are not the same. Furthermore, the displacement depends upon only endpoints. Moreover, the path length depends on only the actual path. In addition, the displacement and magnitude are the same in one dimension because the two quantities do not change direction during the course of motion. Besides, the magnitude of displacement is less than the path length. Also, in a given interval of time, the average speed of an object is greater than or equal to the magnitude of average velocity. Most noteworthy, the origin and the positive direction of an axis are a matter of choice. Also, if a particle is speeding up then the acceleration is in the direction of velocity. Furthermore, if the speed decreases then the acceleration is in the direction opposite of velocity. Moreover, the sign of acceleration does not tell that the speed of the particle is increasing or decreasing. Besides, the zero-velocity of a particle at any instant does not necessarily imply zero acceleration. Download Toppr app for signup for free. Class 11 Physics chapter notes on Chapter 3, Motion in a Straight Line are available here. These notes are helpful for quick revision of the chapter. This article is continuation of C lass 11th Physics Notes: Motion in a Straight Line (Part - I) where basic concepts like Rectilinear motion, Frame of Reference, Path Length, Displacement etc are covered. Topics covered in this part are: Speed Uniform Speed Variable Speed Average Speed Instantaneous Speed Velocity Uniform Velocity Variable Velocity Average Velocity Instantaneous Velocity Uniform Motion in a straight line Relative Velocity The notes are as follows: Speed Speed of an object is defined as the ratio of path length and the corresponding time taken by the object i.e., Speed = Distance travelled/Time taken Speed is a scalar quantity. Its SI unit is ms ‒1. Its dimensional formula is [M 0L 1T ‒1]. CBSE Class 11th Physics Notes: Units and Measurement (Part - I) Uniform Speed An object is said to be travelling with uniform speed if it covers equal distances in equal interval of time. Variable Speed An object is said to be travelling with uniform speed if it covers equal distances in unequal interval of t...

Motion in a straight Line Class 11th Notes

The chapter Motion in a straight line, is chapter 3 of the NCERT. The NCERT Class 11 Physics chapter 3 notes covers a brief idea of the motion in a straight line. The main topics covered in motion in a straight line Class 11 notes are motion, frame of reference, motion along a straight line, distance vs displacement, graphs, average velocity and average speed, instantaneous velocity and speed, acceleration, kinematic equations for uniformly accelerated motion, relative velocity, etc. Class 11 Physics chapter 3 notes also cover the basic equations in the chapter. The necessary derivations are not covered in the Table of contents Also Read, • • NCERT Class 11 Physics Chapter 3 Notes Motion Motion is outlined as the position change of an object with time. Motion of an associate degree object on a line is thought as linear motion. For example flying kites, moving trains, earth’s rotation etc. Frame of Reference A frame of reference is a coordinate system having time reference. According to the frame of reference: • A body is in motion when there is change in position of that body with time with regards to the frame of reference while a body is at rest when there is no change in position. • As an example a moving vehicle, for the reference frame outside the vehicle, it seems moving. On the contrary, for the frame of reference within the vehicle, it seems stationary. Motion Along a Straight Line Motion along a straight line can be described by using only the X-axis of the coordi...
