Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday launched the electronic process to transfer ₹1,000 each in the bank accounts of 12 million women under the state’s Ladli Behna scheme and said the amount will be gradually increased to ₹3,000. Some 12 million women will receive ₹1,000 every month under the welfare scheme. “This scheme has been started with ₹ 1,000 per month, but I will not give only one thousand. The amount will increase gradually,” he said. “I will increase it to ₹1,200 per month and ₹1,500 per month. As soon as the money is arranged in the coming year, I will increase it to ₹3,000 per month.” Chouhan also reduced the minimum age required for availing benefits under the Ladli Behna scheme. “Today I am announcing one more decision. Till now, sisters of 23 years of age or more who were married used to get the benefit. But in Kanyadan scheme, many daughters got married at the age of 21. So, now the daughter who is 21 years old will also be given the benefit of Ladli Behna scheme,” he said. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the state level programme of transferring monthly amount to the accounts of sisters under Mukhyamantri Ladli Bahna Yojana in Jabalpur today. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan transferred a total amount of Rs 1209.64 crore to the accounts of 1.25 crore sisters through a single click. Sisters from all over the state also joined this programme. The state level programme was broadcast in the wards and villages of the state. At the beginning of the programme, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan saluted all the sisters of the state. While starting his address, he said – “Nari tu Narayani, protector of this world”. Through this scheme, ₹1000 a month is to be given to those women from 23 to 60 years of age who have less than 5 acres of land and an annual income of less than ₹2.5 lakhs, Chouhan said. He further said that the scheme will start today itself. "Scheme will start from 5 March. Beneficiaries will be able to apply for the scheme till 30 April 2023. The final list of beneficiaries of the scheme will be released on May 31," CM Chouhan further said adding that the scheme's benefits will start from June 10, 2023. The amount will be credited to the accounts on the 10th of every month. While addressing the gathering, MP CM said, "I used to think that when that day will come, my sisters will not have to worry about thousand rupees. I thought unlike a real brother who comes once a year on Raksha Bandhan and gives gifts to the sisters, I will give something throughout the year, not once in a year."
