Nilambari Open Deck Bus (Mumbai): Reviews and Prices (2023)

Firstly Tripadvisor reviews were a great help to find and book tickets for the Open air bus from Regal cinema. It was a lovely experience as I did this trip with my children. Best way to show our young generation residing away from town what Mumbai is really worth. The only backdrop was that we did not have a tour guide to announce the heritage monuments, but we had google 🥰. All the parents who live away from town side should take this trip along with their kids. A special thanks to Mr kalpesh and Mr Yadav at the booking counter to help us with our front tickets and being courteous and polite too.🙏 We did this tour yesterday. We booked our tickets through Mr. Kalpesh who got us the front row seats in the upper deck. So we were very excited to be on this tour. Our guide on the 7pm tour was highly knowledgeable and patient. I would recommend this tour for those who really interested in seeing and learning about the iconic buildings of South Mumbai. The only negative for me would be lack of cleanliness. There were empty packets of chips dumped by passengers from the previous ride. We shouldn't treat the bus like dumpyard and act more responsibly. Secondly people standing on one side of the bus when there is no need to. Once you take your pictures please go back to your seat so people sitting on the other side can also see the structures. Unfortunately this is all on the people who are coming for the tour with complete lack of civic sense. Went on the Nilambari Bus Tour on 10...

Mumbai's Marine Drive: The Complete Guide

Marine Drive, Mumbai's iconic curved coastal boulevard, is often referred to as the Queen's Necklace because of its glowing string of street lights. This popular seaside promenade provides a refreshing break from the claustrophobic concrete jungle that covers most of the city. In 2018, the long stretch of Art Deco buildings lining it received UNESCO World Heritage status, as part of the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai. Notably, Mumbai has the second largest collection of Art Deco buildings in the world, after Miami. An inscription on a lamp post near Girgaum Chowpatty indicates that the construction of Marine Drive began there, at what was called Kennedy Sea Face, in 1915. It was named after Sir Michael Kavanagh Kennedy, an engineer who was Secretary of the Bombay Public Works Department and a General in the British Army. Unfortunately, he died in 1898, well before the reclamation works began. Marine Drive actually ended up shorter than planned, as logistical problems meant less land was reclaimed than expected. By the mid 1930s, most of the infrastructure works were complete, and the pavement and sidewalk were being laid. Attention turned to architecture, particularly the Art Deco style that was gripping the world. It was seen as glamorous and modern, and was eagerly embraced by the wealthy movie stars and Parsi migrants who went on a building spree along Marine Drive. Many of the Parsis were progressive industrialists. They favored contemporary apartmen...
