Orleans Masters Highlights: Rajawat defeats Johannesen –Priyanshu Rajawat has created history by lifting the Men’s Singles title at the Orleans Masters 2023. The 21-year old defeated Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen 21-15, 19-21, 21-16 in the final on Sunday, 9th April 2023. With the win, he became the first Indian to lift the title at the Orleans Masters. But he soon conceded the early lead to Johannesen, who went ahead with a 5-2 lead. Rajawat foufght back and levelled the scores 5-5. Neck-to-neck battle between the players ensued and leading 9-8, Rajawat hit a backhand winner from close to the net to extend his lead. He soon clinched another point to enter the interval with the scores at 11-8. Rajawat continued to outplay his opponent in the second half. He dominated with his attacking shots and went ahead with a 16-11 lead. Johannesen had no chance of making a comeback as the Indian won the first game 21-15. In the second game, both the players fought tooth and nail. Johannesen managed to eke out a 6-4 lead early in the game. Rajawat made errors helping his opponent enter the interval with a 11-8 lead.
