2025 Champions Trophy to be shifted from Pakistan to West Indies and USA: report

The 2024 T20 World Cup, initially planned for West Indies and USA, and the 50-over 2025 Champions Trophy set to take place in Pakistan, might undergo changes according to reports. Instead of the T20 World Cup, West Indies and USA could potentially host the Champions Trophy, while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may receive monetary compensation for the switch. According to News18, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering shifting the 2025 tournament from Pakistan to the Caribbean, while the 2024 T20 World Cup would be moved to England, Scotland and Ireland. However, these discussions are in their early stages and have only been conducted verbally. The broadcasters for the next ICC media rights are also in agreement with this proposal, and if things progress smoothly, the changes may be implemented. The proposed change is primarily driven by the scheduling constraints faced by the United Kingdom, which can only host events in the May-June window. As the original schedule for the 2024 tournament aligns with this time frame, Ireland and Scotland have been considered as alternative hosts for the T20 World Cup. Shifting the Champions Trophy to West Indies and the USA offers the United States an additional year to develop the necessary infrastructure for hosting the tournament. Moreover, since the Champions Trophy features fewer matches compared to the T20 World Cup, it is seen as a more logistically viable option for the West Indies and the USA. It has been noted...

That's the view of Pakistan team mentor Matthew Hayden, with Babar having averaged just 7.80 in the Super 12 stage, scoring only 39 runs in total and falling for singles figures four times out of five. Speaking ahead of a semi-final you can watch live on Sky Sports Cricket (7.30am build-up, 8am start), former Australia batter Hayden said: "In any given career, you have significant moments of ups and downs, and the challenges and the humps along the way, they cement you and your greatness, how you achieve under adversity. "There's no question that Babar has been under some adversity. That will make him only an even greater player. You can't continue to keep on punching out hundreds and 50s and strike rates of 140-plus. Trending • Transfer Centre LIVE! Asia Cup 2023 set to be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka

The PCB's proposed hybrid model for the Asia Cup is likely to be approved by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), with Sri Lanka as the neutral venue where India can play their games. The model sees four - and possibly five - of the tournament's 13 games being played in Pakistan. All the India-Pakistan games will be played in Sri Lanka, as will the final if India is involved. The likely approval represents a significant breakthrough in an impasse which has not only dragged on for some time but has also threatened fallout for ICC events, most pressingly the World Cup in India this year but also the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan. There is a possibility now that an agreement here could ease Pakistan's path to traveling to India for the World Cup. The PCB head Najam Sethi had presented details of the hybrid model to Pankaj Khimji, head of Oman Cricket and the ACC's vice-president, in a meeting in Dubai a couple of weeks ago. It was the solution the PCB had proposed to account for the fact that India will not travel to Pakistan for the tournament because of ongoing political tensions between the governments of the two countries. Those political ties have led to a long and cumbersome path to this solution - the PCB, as appointed hosts, have been keen to ensure that at least part of the tournament is played in Pakistan. The UAE was in the running as a neutral venue, and Sri Lanka was keen to host the entire tournament. At one stage the BCB and SLC A total of 13 matches, including...

PCB sends ICC SOS for Asia Cup 2023, BCCI official claims, 'Pakistan boycott unlikely'

As Asia Cup 2023 deadlock continues, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has sent an SOS to the International Cricket Council (ICC). PCB wants ICC to force BCCI in accepting the hybrid model. While PCB had threatened to boycott the tournament if the hybrid model is not accepted, BCCI believes it won’t be the case and Pakistan will play the tournament. “Those are just immediate reactions. PCB very well knows what position they are in and any money that comes through is important for them. I don’t think Pakistan can boycott. They will play in Asia Cup and World Cup. For the moment, they are trying whatever they can to keep it but it’s not going to happen,”a senior BCCI official who is in London for the WTC Final told InsideSport on Tuesday. Also Read: What is PCB’s Asia Cup 2023 Hybrid Model? • In the new hybrid model, the tournament will be played in two halves. • In the first phase, Pakistan will host Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal. • The 2nd phase will have India’s matches at a neutral venue. • Sri Lanka is the preferred destination as India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are opposing UAE due to heat. • The neutral venue will also host the final even if India fail to qualify or Pakistan play the final. When ICC top brass, including President Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice, visited Pakistan last week, Sethi had a detailed discussion on the Asia Cup row. it should be noted that ICC is concerned with the strained ties between India and Pakistan w...
