Lalbaugcha Raja's first

MUMBAI: The first-ever 4 ft idol of the Lalbaugcha Raja was unveiled for darshan at 12:30 pm on This is the 88th year of the mandal's festivities. For the first time in decades, the pose of the Raja is altered too. Instead of its regular upright seated position on a throne, the deity is seen reclining on Sheshnag, the black serpent. Mandal president Balasaheb Kamble says they had fashioned a similar idol approximately 30-40 years ago as well. This season the change was necessitated by the state government's Covid-19 lockdown rules that stipulate that the height of the idol may not exceed 4 ft. The earlier regal pose would appear small on a throne, and viewers would instantly compare it with the enormous 12 ft idol of previous years. The reclining Ganesh has no precedent and therefore serves as a novelty. The honour of performing the first aarti went to mandal secretary Citizens bring in Ganeshotsav on Friday with love and fervour.
