IND vs AUS: Gritty Handscomb stands tall as Australia continue to breathe

IND vs AUS: Gritty Handscomb stands tall as Australia continue to breathe Peter Handscomb in action [Source: AP] The change in venue didn't bring any change in fortunes for Australia, as they fell flat yet again against the rampant Indian bowling in the post-lunch session of the second Test in Delhi. However, fortunately for the visitors, Peter Handscomb and Pat Cummins put price on their respective wickets, keeping the Indian bowlers at bay in the rest of the session. How the battle panned out? The session began with Australia reeling at 94 for three, with Usman Khawaja battling it out for the visitors alongside Travis Head. But the hosts roared back their way into the game, as Mohammed Shami put an end to Head's brief innings, removing him for a 30-ball 12. However, the gritty duo of Khawaja and Peter Handscomb tried their best to resurrect the Australian innings, stitching a vital 59-run stand for the fifth wicket. But just when things seemed to be going in Australia's favour, Khawaja's go-to shot, the reverse sweep, became the reason for his demise, as KL Rahul's sensational grab made him walk back to the pavilion with disappointment written all over his face. Meanwhile, Alex Carey continued his poor run in India, falling prey to R Ashwin's guile for a five-ball duck. However, Handscomb used his feet to perfection, making it tough for India to run through the Australian tail. On the contrary, skipper Pat Cummins decided to live by the sword and die by the sword, as he ...

IND vs AUS: Peter Handscomb suffers hip injury to worsen Australia's injury concerns

Australian batter Peter Handscomb will be desperately hoping that he recovers just in time ahead of the four-match away Test series against India, starting February 9. Handscomb has a task at hand related to his fitness as he is currently nursing a hip injury, which was confirmed following scans on Friday. The Aussie middle-order sensation suffered the injury while he attempted to play a pull shot in cricket club in Victoria earlier this week. However, he did not feel the pain immediately and continued batting but after three deliveries the 31-year-old collapsed in agony after attempting yet another pull shot. "Scans have since confirmed soft-tissue damage in his right hip," Cricket Australia said in a statement. "Officials are confident Handscomb will be fit to leave with the Australian team later this month for the Qantas tour of India,” it added. Peter Handscomb add to Australia's injury concerns Handscomb has not played a Test match for Australia since 2019 and would be looking to regain his red-ball spot by showcasing consistent performances in the upcoming India tour. He was a part of the Aussie playing XI during their previous visit to the country in the 2016/17 season. Meanwhile, with hardly a month left for the all-important India tour, some injury concerns to their key players have left the Australian camp in a spot of bother. Apart from Handscomb, pace spearhead Mitchell Starc and emerging all-rounder Cameron Green are nursing their finger injuries. The veteran ...

Handscomb has been in great form this winter for his state side Victoria, hitting 571 runs in five matches to help them reach this week's final of the Sheffield Shield against Western Australia, against whom he made a career-best 281 not out in October. WTC Final 2023 London Weather Report: What will the weather be like during IND vs AUS game? WTC Final 2023: Rohit Sharma out to end ICC trophy jinx as India and Australia battle for Test bragging rights “It definitely wasn’t easy out there. It’s tough because when the pitch is playing tricks that starts to play with your mind a little bit as well,” Handscomb said at the press conference after the opening day’s play. “The ball that doesn’t do as much you expect to do a little bit more and that’s where you can come undone with the ball that goes straight on, rather than the big turners we saw out there as well.” Handscomb, who scored 31 in the Australian innings, said the Indian team bowled really well as a unit and didn’t give away easy runs. “It’s tough out there, Jadeja was obviously bowling very well, not really giving our batsmen a lot to hit and I found him tough to score (against),” the 31-year-old right- handed batter said. For Handscomb, it was a comeback to the Test team after four years and he said he was feeling nice to play again in the longest format. “I’ve worked really hard on a lot of things on my game, mentally, tactically and on my technique as well. “To work that hard and get the rewards to come back in, it’s a really, really nice feeling. I’m just grateful to be out there and give it a crack at time.” Read all the IND vs AUS Highlights, WTC Final Day 1, Full Cricket Score: Head, Smith help Australia reach 327/3 at stumps India vs Australia Highlights, WT...

IND Vs AUS: Peter Handscomb Doubtful For India Series After Scans Confirm Hip Injury

Australian wicketkeeper-batter Peter Handscomb is now a doubtful for his first Test tour in four years as scans have confirmed that he has sustained a hip injury. Notably, Handscomb was hurt on Tuesday when he was playing a club cricket match in Victoria. While going for the pull shot, he hurt himself and even though he continued batting, three balls later he fell to the ground with pain after connecting a pull stroke which went all the way for a maximum. Scans have now revealed a soft-tissue damage in his right hip and even though officials have hoped that he should recover in time to leave with the Australian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India, it will be a matter of touch and go. Peter Handscomb not the only injury concern for Australia The 31-year-old is not the only Aussie cricketer who is nursing an injury at the moment as they already have the likes of Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green out with injuries. Left-arm speedster Mitchell Starc has already been ruled out of the first Test in Nagpur on February 9 and won't be flying to India by the end of this month. On the other hand, Green, it is being said, can play in the series opener. After picking Handscomb in the Australian squad, national selector George Bailey had said that the 31-year-old deserves his place in the team "He deserves his place back in the squad," national selector George Bailey stated as per an official Cricket Australia release. "His domestic form has been strong recently and Pete has pro...
