NEET 2023: Two students share top rank; highest number of qualifying candidates from Uttar Pradesh

Tamil Nadu's Prabanjan J and Andhra Pradesh's Bora Varun Chakravarthi have topped the medical entrance exam NEET-UG this year with 99.99 percentile scores, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Tuesday. A total of 11.45 lakh candidates out of 20.38 lakh have qualified the exam. Among the states, Uttar Pradesh has highest number of qualifying candidates (1.39 lakh) followed by Maharashtra (1.31 lakh) and Rajasthan (over 1 lakh). The NTA conducted the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (UG) at 4,097 centres located in 499 cities throughout the country including 14 cities outside India on May 7. "Seven candidates were identified using unfair practices in the examination and have been dealt with as per the norms," a senior NTA official said. The examination was conducted in 13 languages (Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu). The examination was also conducted outside India in Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Colombo, Doha, Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Manama, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore along with Dubai and Kuwait City. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday reviewed the ongoing construction of the Ram Temple and implementation of other welfare projects in Ayodhya, a day ahead of his scheduled political rally in the temple town. According to people aware of the details, officials of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust briefed Adityanath on the construction of the temple. The trust is overseeing the construction of the temple which began in 2020. The construction of the first floor of the three-storey temple is likely to begin by the end of the month and the work on the ground floor is nearing completion, a member of the Trust had earlier said. The temple’s foundation was laid in an elaborate ceremony presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 5, 2020. The construction started thereafter and is being monitored by senior functionaries. Andhra Pradesh govt. using revenue deficit grant by Centre to clear dues of small contractors, says YSRCP leader The State is confident of receiving another ₹12,911 crore for Polavaram project as soon as the Union Cabinet approves the proposal, he says June 14, 2023 08:27 pm | Updated 10:25 pm IST - GUNTUR The Andhra Pradesh government is utilising ₹10,461 crore, which was released by the Union government under the revenue deficit grant fund for the 2014-15 financial year, to clear all small bills of contractors below ₹5 lakh as per the A.P. Reorganisation Act, 2014, a senior leader of the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has said. The contractors whose bills are yet to be cleared can expect payment in the next phase, he said. The YSRCP leader, during a discussion, hinted that the government would get an additional ₹4,000 crore from the Central government through other provisions. “Once the State government receives this money it could be used for clearing the dues of contractors if needed,” he said. Apart from this, the State government is confident of receiving another ₹12,911 crore for Polavaram irrigation project as soon as the Union Cabinet approves the proposal. “The Union Ministry of Finance and the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti have given their nod for it and only the approval of the Cabinet is pending,” YSRCP general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V.
