Radhika Madan started her acting career with the television show, Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi, in 2014. Her portrayal of Ishaani in the show based on the iconic British novel, Wuthering Heights, propelled her to instant fame and won her multiple awards. A year later, she participated in the celebrity dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8. But soon, Radhika quit the television industry to carve a niche for herself in Bollywood. But in a recent interview a while back, Radhika’s comments on the gruelling hours and the lack of innovation on television sparked off quite a controversy. The Shiddat (2021) and Kuttey (2023) actor revealed that she worked for as long as 48-50 hours for Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi and alleged that the show’s directors would frequently change the script. Following her statement, she was called out by the television fraternity including actor Sayantani Ghosh and producer Ekta Kapoor for looking down on the medium that gave a push to her career. She also talked about bagging her first TV show at the age of 17 and how she gained weight due to the hectic schedule of TV. She revealed that she soon heard rumours of her getting replaced on the show and decided to lose weight, "As a kid, I was happy in my own world doing my own thing; I was a queen. I was really mischievous & would sometimes even puncture tyres for fun! Growing up, I had a unibrow & hardly got attention from boys, but I didn’t care; I felt I was pretty. And whenever anyone asked, ‘What do you want to do when you grow up?’ I’d say, ‘Shaadi’! I loved the taamjham! But I became passionate about dancing & dreamt of going to Broadway. My parents were supportive. At 17, I auditioned for a TV show & within 3 days I was in Bombay, shooting. But it was tough. I barely got time to sleep, which led to me gaining a few kilos. Then, I heard rumours about me getting replaced & that pushed me to explore my limits. So I began working out & lost myself to my character. Radhika, who is now a Bollywood actress, had begun her career with TV as Ishani in the hit TV show Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi opposite actor Shakti Arora. Radhika had earlier talked about the long working hours on the television sets and many other things which had actually angered many TV actors. Recently in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, she revealed a positive side and how the TV industry helped her in her career. She said, “Everything I know, I learned through television. What you can obtain on TV is not offered anywhere else.” When asked about her fan base after working on TV for over two years, Radhika stated that filmmakers were taken aback because they weren't expecting a television personality to be so renowned. She added, “Nobody expected me to have that following but that is the love that you get from television”. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sayantani said, "When people start from TV and reach a certain status, then why do they bicker about television?" She added, "Television feeds hundreds of homes, it gives you employment, and the biggest of TV stars also choose the medium to promote their films." "I have a problem with the approach.
