Suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh gets conditional bail in hate speech case

By Abdul Basheer: Suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh has been granted conditional bail in the case against him for making inflammatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad. The Telangana High Court also quashed the charges under the Preventive Detention Act against T Raja Singh, his counsel Karuna Sagar said. ALSO READ | T Raja Singh was arrested in August for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad. An FIR was lodged against him after massive protests erupted at several locations in Hyderabad, demanding action against him. Soon after his remarks sparked a row, T Raja Singh was also suspended by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). ALSO READ | The protests were triggered by a video on social media, in which T Raja Singh was heard making offensive remarks about Islam and Muslims. The Goshamal MLA had released a video against stand-up comic Munawar Faruqui, claiming that the latter had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and made remarks against the artist and his mother.

Hyderabad: Amidst massive public outrage by the Muslim community in Hyderabad, The 14th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in Nampally, granted bail to BJP Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh over his derogatory remarks on prophet Mohammad. The legislator was given a 'don't repeat' warning and asked to submit a personal bond worth Rs 20,000. The court for communal disturbance witnessed an influx of protestors leading minor lathi charges. Parts of the old city in Hyderabad were on a boil. How did it all start? Two days after stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui held his show in Shilpakala Vedika auditorium in Hyderabad. BJP MLA Raja Singh, who earlier threatened to burn down the show venue, uploaded a derogatory video on Shree Ram Youtube Channel. In the video posted on `Shree Ram Channel Telangana', Raja Singh also abused comedian Munawar Faruqui and his mother two days after his show in Hyderabad. He even made comments very similar to the ones made by BJP leader Nupur Sharma, which had evoked condemnation from Muslim countries. The video soon caught the public eye resulting in massive protests in Dabeerpura, Humayan Nagar, Charminar, and Hyderabad Commissioner's office at Basheerbagh. Police in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad have arrested a suspended leader of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) for making allegedly abusive remarks about the prophet Muhammad. Police arrested T Raja Singh, 45, on Thursday after thousands of Muslims took to the streets in the city protesting against his speech. After his arrest under the Preventive Detention Act, police alleged in a statement that he had been “habitually delivering provocative and inflammatory speeches and driving a wedge between communities leading to public disorder”. The police also accused him of being involved in 18 “communal offences” in the past. Singh, a two-time legislator in the assembly of Telangana state, of which Hyderabad is the capital, was arrested two days after the BJP had reportedly suspended him for his alleged hate speeches and related activities. Three months ago, the former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma made an anti-Islam comment that sparked massive international outrage, with many Muslim countries condemning India. BJP was forced to suspend her from the party. Suspending Singh on Tuesday, the central disciplinary committee of BJP said his views were his own and “contrary to the party’s position”. A city court on Tuesday granted bail to now suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh who was Raja Singh, who was arrested on Tuesday morning, was ordered to be released on bail barely a couple of hours after he was remanded to judicial custody. The 14th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate directed the BJP leader to cooperate with the police in the investigation into the case. Raja Singh was produced at the Nampally Criminal Court amid tight security and high tension due to protests by his supporters and those opposed to him. Hyderabad: BJP MLA Raja Singh Granted Conditional Bail

HYDERABAD: BJP Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh was granted bail but with certain conditions on Wednesday. The Telangana High Court after hearing a petition filed by Raja Singh's wife granted bail to the MLA for his alleged derogatory and objectionable remarks made in a video against a particular religion.The court alse lifted the Preventive Detention Act against the controversial leader from the old city. The High Court said that only the family members should be present at the time of release from jail.The court ordered the lawmaker to not make any provocative remarks or insult any religion.The court also said that the lawmaker was not allowed to participate in press meets, rallies, or processions. The court also ordered him to not post on social media for three months. Raja Singh is currently lodged in Cherlapally Jail for the past two months under the Preventive Detention Act after his arrest on August 25. Raja Singh was suspended from the party on September 2 for making these controversial remarks He had also replied to the showcase notice issued by the BJP high command. On September 5, the police applied the PD Act against him and he was taken to Cherlapally Jail.
