This is no longer realistic. Global recycling capacity simply cannot keep up with the taking, making and wasting of natural resources. Growing mountains of plastic waste are accumulating in the poorest countries as affluent nations such as the UK ship their recycling overseas. EcoDrop

In order to provide as many environmentally sound recycling and disposal options for residents of Oneida and Herkimer Counties, the Authority has two facilities: EcoDrop Utica and EcoDrop Rome. These facilities were designed to work jointly with a wide range of public and private waste collection systems by providing convenient disposal options for special or one-time waste, while also providing an option for residents who may not be able to subscribe to a specific collection system. • Recyclables (Paper, Plastic, Metal, Glass) • Tires With and Without Rims • Electronics (Computer Equipment, Televisions, Printers) • Household Garbage • Green Waste • Bulky Rigid Plastics (Plastic Lawn Furniture, Clean Plastic Buckets, Plastic Toys, etc.) • Garbage/Bulk Items (Furniture, Mattress, Chair, Table) • Automobile Batteries, Rechargeable Batteries • Scrap Metal (Pots & Pans, Bicycles, etc.) • Appliances (Stove, Washing Machine, Dryer) • Used Motor Oil, Anti-Freeze • Cooking Oil Household Hazardous Waste Many household products can be potentially harmful to people and the environment. When these products are disposed of improperly, they can become hazardous. The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority has a special Household Hazardous Waste Collection at its EcoDrop Utica for receiving, sorting, packaging and storing household hazardous waste material. Clothing Drop

The Authority has a Clothing Drop Off Box at the EcoDrop Utica and EcoDrop Rome for the delivery of used clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, drapes, pillowcases and stuffed animals for donation. All materials/items must be dropped off in plastic bags. The Three R's Framework

Activity : 2 hrs 30 mins Activity : 2 hrs 30 mins The Three R's Framework The Three R's Framework Students dive into the three R’s–Refuse or Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle–as a framework for reducing plastic waste in the environment. They break into expert groups to teach each other about each of these components of the framework. • Tell students that this lesson is going to be focused on the three R’s. • Activate students’ prior knowledge by asking them if they know what the three R’s are. If they do, ask them to briefly explain each (refuse/reduce, reuse, recycle). • Play the music video for the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Earth Day Song (6:50). Have fun with this! Encourage students to get up and dance to the song. 2.
