Oscars Nominations 2023: ‘RRR’ Song And Two Documentaries From India

DVV Entertainment The nominations for the RRR bagged one nomination for the song Naatu Naatu.Two documentaries from the country also found their way to the nominations. Shaunak Sen's All That Breathes and Kartiki Gonsalves' The Elephant Whisperers have also been nominated in the Best Documentary Feature and Best Documentary Short categories respectively. MM Keeravaani has composed the lyrics for the song Naatu Naatu that is written Chandrabose. Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava have sung the song choreographed by Prem Rakshith. As soon as the nominations were announced, Indian film buffs and artists were all elated. The official handle of RRR on Twitter also shared happiness of the team. Actors Jr NTR and congratulated musician MM Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose for the nod. Keeravani’s Naatu Naatu is also the first song from an Indian film to be nominated in the category at the Oscars. In 2009, AR Jai Ho won the award at the Oscars, but it featured in the British production Slumdog Millionnaire, directed by Danny Boyle . SS Rajamouli's fictional pre-Independence epic has made history at the 95th Academy Awards. The Telugu blockbuster managed a nomination in the Best Song category. The nominees were announced on Tuesday by Allison Williams and Riz Ahmed from Beverly Hills, California. RRR won two awards at Critics Choice Awards. All That Breathes also nabbed Best Documentary Feature nomination. Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” landed a leading 11 nominations on Tuesday, including nods for Michelle Yeoh and comeback kid Ke Huy Quan. Earlier, RRR won the Best Song award for its track Naatu Naatu and the Best Foreign language film in the 28th version of the Critics Choice Awards. Prior to that, RRR made India proud on the global stage as it won the Golden Globe for the Best Original Score Naatu Naatu. RRR, a pre-independence fictional story, follows two real-life Indian revolutionaries - Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) - in the 1920s. The film also featured Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in special appearances. At the Golden Globes, RRR was also nominated in the 'best picture-non English' cateogry but lost out to Argentina's historical drama Argentina, 1985. On Jan. 24, India had three reasons to celebrate: an original song All That Breathes; and a documentary short nom for The Elephant Whisperers— a respectable showing for a country that takes great pride in its cinematic output. But if leaders of the nation’s film industry had played their cards differently a few months earlier when deciding which film should represent India in the best For that Oscar category, a country can submit only one title. There are no exceptions for countries with vibrant film industries that produce multiple worthy candidates each year because, as it is, Academy members who volunteer to evaluate the submissions barely have time to consider that many. Indeed, 92 countries and regions entered a title this season. The Academy requires that each country form an “organization, jury or committee” to pick the entry.
