Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus Review: All the Android Tablet You Need

Managing Editor Josh Goldman is a laptop expert and has been writing about and reviewing them since built-in Wi-Fi was an optional feature. He also covers almost anything connected to a PC, including keyboards, mice, USB-C docks and PC gaming accessories. In addition, he writes about cameras, including action cams and drones. And while he doesn't consider himself a gamer, he spends entirely too much time playing them. 2022 The Galaxy Tab S8 Plus is the overlooked middle child of Samsung's latest tablet line but it deserves your attention. Its pricier sibling, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, overshadowed the Plus when they were announced in February, mainly because of its huge display. But, while it's tempting to succumb to FOMO and get the highest-end device just to have the best of the best, the extra cost doesn't seem worth it. Instead, consider the more travel-friendly Plus. The Ultra's display is hard to ignore: It's a 14.6-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 2,960x1,848-pixel resolution at 240 pixels per inch and a 120Hz refresh rate. By comparison, the largest iPad Pro at the moment is 12.9 inches with a 2,732x2,048-pixel resolution at 264ppi. The Tab S8 Plus has a 12.4-inch, 2,800x1,752-pixel Super AMOLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate. It's the smallest of the three, but it's a great display to build a tablet around (or behind, technically). Both the Ultra and Plus (and the regular Tab S8 for that matter) run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 system-on-chip, and the base mod...

Samsung hasn’t shaken up its formula all that much, but it is making one big change — and we do mean big. Ajay Kumar As with the Galaxy Tab S7 that was released in 2020, Samsung is releasing multiple models of the Galaxy Tab S8. Where the Tab S7 had two models, the Tab S8 is embracing the same scheme as the current line of Related • • • Samsung’s Tab series hasn’t had a consistent lineup of devices in a while, with the Tab S5 launching with only an E model and the Tab S6 having a Lite model. The Tab S7 was actually the first to launch as a pair of devices, and now the Tab S8 is expanding that to three. Adding an Ultra model is clearly intended to lure away would-be Ajay Kumar It’s evident that the The company previously dinged Apple over its use of the notch, instead focusing on its Infinity branded displays that had hole punches. With the S8 Ultra, Samsung is going the Apple way and adopting the notch on its large-screen device to accommodate the front-facing dual camera sensors. This isn’t the first time Samsung mocked Apple for a controversial change it then adopted shortly later. It’s become standard practice, from eliminating headphone jacks on phones to ditching the charger in the box. Ajay Kumar High-end specs are par for the course for Samsung’s S series phones, and the S8 tablets are no different. The Leading the charge are...

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus review: As good as it can get

Android tablets have gotten a bad rap up until now, largely because neither Google nor developers seemed to care much about them. But there’s one company that does care about them — Samsung. Much like the smartphone market, Samsung has set up shop as the go-to tablet maker when it comes to high-end premium Android tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 tablets are Samsung’s latest attempts at making great Android tablets. Contents • • • • • • • • • Show 4 more items Dear reader, Samsung is there. But the tablet is not perfect, and only some of that is Samsung’s fault. I’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus as my only tablet for three weeks, and this is my full review. Adam Doud/Digital Trends One of the high points of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ is the design and build quality. Put simply, this tablet is absolutely gorgeous. The 12.4-inch screen is expansive with small, but noticeable bezels all around that are perfect for holding the tablet. The Armor Aluminum frame is sturdy and exudes a premium feel. Around the edges, in landscape orientation, you’ll find speakers top and bottom on both sides, a power button and volume rocker on the top along with the SIM and SD card tray, and a USB-C Charging and data port on the right. On the back, there’s a camera housing that extends most of the way across the back of the tablet. This is where you can magnetically store and charge the included S Pen.
