Sunil Dutt, who is best remembered for movies such as ‘Mother India’, ‘Waqt’, ‘Padosan’ and Sadhna’ among others, died of a heart attack on May 25, 2005, in Mumbai. He fell in love with Nargis after a fire broke out on the sets of their 1957 film ‘Mother India’ and he reportedly rescued her. They were said to have come closer while recuperating from the injuries. Sunil Dutt and Nargis tied the knot on March 11, 1958. Besides Priya, they’re also parents to Sanjay Dutt and Namrata Dutt. In the early ’80s, Nargis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and she died on May 3, 1981. Veteran actor also worked as a politician. In 1984, he entered politics by joining the Congress. The KGF2 actor went on to add, "My first reaction was that, once you hear something like this, your whole life reflects back at you. I have a history of cancer in my family. My mom died of pancreatic cancer, my wife (Richa Sharma) died of brain cancer. So, the first thing I said was that, I don't want to take chemotherapy. If I'm supposed to die, I will just die but I don't want any treatment."

On Wednesday, the actor, along with his sister Priya Dutt, attended an event at a hospital, where he opened up about his cancer diagnosis and more. Sanjay, who was then shooting for his film Shamshera, said that the news about his cancer wasn’t shared with him properly. As per a ETimes report, the actor shared that he was alone at the hospital when the news was abruptly broken to him.
