Maggot therapy, also known as larval therapy, is one option available for treating chronic, infected, necrotic and sloughy wounds. The maggots used are special clinical-grade, aseptically reared larvae of the common greenbottle fly (- Lucilia seri cata). Fig 1 outlines the life cycle of this medicinal maggot.
