AT LEAST four mountaineers were killed and over 30 feared trapped after an avalanche at Draupadi ka Danda-2 (DKD-2) peak in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday. The mountaineers were part of a team of 34 trainees, seven instructors and a nursing assistant from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM).

The team was returning after summiting. NIM’s advanced training course team included trainees and instructors. On Tuesday, about 41 trainees and instructors of the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering were hit by an avalanche. The institute said that the Advanced Mountaineering Course commenced on September 14 at NIM Uttarkashi.

DEHRADUN/UTTARKASHI: A 2.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Uttarkashi district on October 2, just two days before the deadly avalanche hit the group of trainees from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) at Draupadi ka Danda. Sixteen bodies were recovered till Thursday afternoon while fifteen persons are still reported missing.
